Faith of Ulantarr

Ulantarr’s chosen people are the gnomes and halflings, and in those nations and enclaves, he is worshipped as their Guardian. His priests there are embedded within the community, and he is seen as an intermediary between their races and the other gods.     Elsewhere, Ulantarr’s faith is loosely organised, and tends to be formed of gathered outcasts who turn to their worship of him in different ways. Prisoners, travellers, survivors of slaughter or imprisonment, jesters, failing bards or struggling scholars, all of the downtrodden masses turn to him. He avoids the Golden Throne and its splendour, dislikes the mystic sentimentality of the Moon Court, and avoids the other Wanderers as well, and his faith as a result does the same. They gather amongst themselves, or when they travel, do so in the aid of those on the edges of society who have nobody else to turn to.   Ulantarr is known to fly into a rage against any family members who harm or betray one of their own, and so his followers are always alert to abuse, bullying or other attacks against people within families. A priest of Ulantarr is often likely to help a child who is at risk, taking them to safety, and then to teach them tricks, without ever involving the authorities. Ulantarr’s faith has one element that is hugely organised, and that is the network of refuges, havens, and refugee camps across the world in countless locations, and all fragments of the faith will work to keep these open.

Tenets of Faith

  • Family is sacred, and any betrayal of that trust must be guarded against;
  • Laughter is the best medicine for the young, for the innocent.
  • Mischief and treachery is permitted against the powerful and abusive.
  • It is better to humiliate utterly and defeat completely, than to fight and win temporarily.
  • Keep a warm hearth and an open heart for those who flee oppression.
  • The greatest tyrant falls to naught, when his captive people find him a fool.

Priesthood

There are no ranks within the faith of Ulantarr.   Each priest of Ulantarr will carry a red ribbon of some kind on their person, somewhere.   NB: Clerics of Ulantarr, if they are aware an opponent also serves him, is more likely to engage in trickery or deceit, or mischief, than battle.
