Members of the Wicked Embers
A local bandit group has been harassing members of a town for a long time now, but have never done anything to warrant risking sending soldiers to apprehend them. Last night, however, the towns ancient archives were broken into leaving much stolen, the local wizard dead and two of the bandit group in custody. With the potential power of what might have been stolen the local militia is more than willing to compensate a group of adventurers for some help.
Plot points/Scenes
The party is directed to an old wizard who lives in an old library temple just north of a mountain town.
They arrive upon a town in scrambles as the wizard was killed the night before by a bandit group, two of whom are in custody
The two bandits reveal their leader, alotel, is a bit off, arguing with herself in private as if someone is there. Recently this behaviour has been increasing until this incident when she went totally off the rails.

Alotel heard from a merchant about an old library full of ancient knowledge he wished he could copy to sell, and decided it might have an answer to the voice in her head driving her mad.
This library was home to an ancient mage who found immortality by scribing his consciousness into a groß volume of spellbooks, and the old wizard was one of his many apprentices. Not knowing this, Alotel simply stole a handful of books hoping to decode them later and killed the wizard in self defense.
The missing books corrupted the coding of the system forcing the ancient mage into dormancy, and in the wizards absence traveling scribes begin flocking to the now empty library to make copies of its wealth of books. With each copy some of the latent magic of the codex is activated causing wild effects to the surrounding area.
When the party finds Alotel she is on the verge of a psychotic break and when stressed further gets fully possessed by Nitri who then flees to the golden city
