Acid Lands

During the earliest phases of the creation of the world, Blubbarious acted as a chaotic entity, seeking to spread his influences across the world in chaotic ways. The results of this was the creation of several areas of the world where naturally occurring organic acid is plentiful and the life in these places evolved with this phenomenon.   Known Locations of Acid Vents: The most common method by which the acid is spouted into the world is through what are known as Acid Vents. These are small conical mounds of stone or earth with tubes in their center which continuously spew acid from deep beneath the worlds surface. Many experiments have been conducted to determine the source of this acid, but none have been successful. Below is a list of the known locations of these vents:   1) Southern Lowkren Cliffs: In the sea south of Lowkren are a number of undersea acid vents, resulting in the water in this area to be particularly dangerous to navigate without an acid resistant boat. 2) Southern Strait of Iur: Another collection of undersea acid vents results in similar conditions to those in the South Sea of Lowkren 3) Morel Mountains: The eastern range of the Morel Mountains contains a number of acid vents which spew onto the crags of the range. The result is one of the most complex and chaotic networks of mountains and ravines and caverns ever seen. 4) Continental Mire: The actual location of the acid vents in this area are unknown, but it is suspected they are small but plentiful and spread across the 1000 kilometer range of the swamp that divides Ursk. 5) Acid Pools of Naga: Reports of the few survivors of trips to Naga indicate that the landscape is speckled with deep black acid pools which the orcs use for various rituals and as part of their forging of Orchalium. 6) South Laresian Vent: It is suspected there is another set of undersea vents somewhere in the sea between Laresia and Ursk, though this has not been confirmed. Speculation to its location is based on weather patterns on the Lost Continent. 7) Southern Ursk Peninsula: On the peninsula south of the road between the Black Gate and Millak point stretches a vast swath of land pocketed with tiny acid vents. These vents are unique, as they rarely release acid anymore, but when they do, it often shoots high into the sky forming dense acid clouds which then drift east to the Ursk Desert.   The SandSlime: The result of the acid clouds that descend over the Ursk Desert is the formation of a massive slime creature formed of sand and the adhesive acid that falls to the ground. The creature is nearly invulnerable to any attack, however it is slow and generally not terribly aggressive. Coming into physical contact with the creature is not advised, as the acid of its form is the most powerful known to Toros, bypassing the acid resistance of even the creatures of the Lost Continent. Travelers in the desert tend to give the creature plenty of space, as it is not worth trying to get rid of it.     Acid Rains: One of the results of the undersea acid vents is acid rain in many areas of the world. This phenomenon is most present in 2 areas; on the eastern coast of the Tyral Mountains, and the north coast of the Lost Continent.   The impact of this rain is minimal on the Tyral mountains, as most of the acid is not strong enough to deteriorate the mountains. It has been said that within the area most often struck by the acid rain that black dragons flock as it is one of the safest places for them to dwell, as few other creatures can enter the area.   On the Lost Continent, however, the impact was much more severe. Based on fossil records, the area was devastated when the rains started to impact the area. For centuries, the forest deteriorated inward as the rains made the land all but uninhabitable. It wasn't until centuries after the initial occurrence of the acid rain that the plants began to evolve acid resistance. After this occurrence, the trees rapidly took back the land which once was dead and devastated, and made it into a dense jungle once again. Furthermore, animals that regularly ate these acid resistant plants also became acid resistant. This resistance traveled up the food chain until all the creatures of the continent had a powerful immunity to acid. Because this acid immunity comes from a diet of acid resistant plants, a creature which does not consume acid resistant material regularly will loose this resistance over time. Efforts have been made to cultivate acid resistant plants outside of the Lost Continent as a means to provide the world as a whole with higher acid resistance, but all attempts have been unsuccessful. Many individuals have been successful, however, at crafting strong acid immunity potions from the fruits and plants of the Lost Continent, which is widely prized by many as Orcish weapons are often laden with acid. Lastly, the acid resistant trees of the Lost Continent are prized for ship construction, as they are the only vessels which can traverse waters with acid vents beneath the surface. Harvesting this wood, however, is strictly controlled by the Lupine, as the forest is sacred to them and they will not allow excessive deforestation.
