Irdan Raz from Waterdeep

As the GGC make their way to Waterdeep. Gurgeh is 600 hundred miles from home. While he has traveled far and wide over his career as a mercenary/scout, he has never been to Waterdeep before. He has always steered clear of large cities (even though he grew up in one).   What he knows about Waterdeep comes mainly from other mercenaries he served with. In particular a Human called Irdan Raz. The two had worked together for a number of years. Irdan had been a bullyblade from the Dock Ward, muscle hire, yet dreamed of better. He had a young family when Gurgeh met him and the two opposites had bonded immediately. Irdan was loud, loved an ale and a song. He was extremely funny and warm. He also looked like his mother had fucked a giant (a fact Gurgeh delighted in repeatedly reminding him) Pure strength and skill with a long sword made him a formidable opponent and wonderful alley. Gurgeh and Irdan had many adventures together and both became rich from it.   Irdan moved his family from Dock Ward to the more comfortable Southern Ward. He would tell Gurgeh about their first time as a family watching Moon Sphere, an event that occurs during every full moon in the Southern Ward. Southern Ward was a world away from what Irdan had known and was delighted his wife and son would live well. After every job he brought his wealth home or sent it by trusted messenger, a Halfling called Yarkin.   After a campaign in Greypeak Mountains, the group that had hired them - turned and attacked Irdan & Gurgeh in order to increase their share of the recovered treasure.   If it had not been for Irdan, Gurgeh would have died that day. Together, Gurgeh and Irdan, managed to kill their 6 former partners/employers. Irdan was mortally wounded in the fight and they had killed the healer of the group. Gurgeh did what he could but it was not enough and Irdan died. Eventually after recovering from his own wounds and managing to make it home to his wife and daughter, Gurgeh contacted Yarkin and sent all 8 shares of the treasure, with a detailed note of how Irdan had died saving Gurgeh’s life, to Irdan’s family. The 8 shares amounted to a small fortune in its self, along with the wealth Irdan had already amassed this would ensure his family a extremely comfortable life. Gurgeh has never met Irdan's family and wonders if he will get time (or the nerve) to look for them

The Campaign before the Campaign Vol.2

Gurgeh was a mercenary, scout for hire. He has seen many battles (if not a very good fighter, he is a good scout and some courage) Money and riches were his primary driver. He had a family, wife Mylaela and daughter Symrustar but he was away a lot. Gurgeh convinced himself he was doing it all for them. He did love them very much. While away on a campaign, his whole village was raided by a party of Goblins. Nobody was left alive. It was a month later that Gurgeh arrived back to find nothing identifiable left behind. Though it was clear it had been a Goblin raiding party. Gurgeh blames himself for not being there. He always worries that his family were taken and not killed straight away. Gurgeh went on a Goblin killing spree for some time, living day to day from bounty on Goblins and Orcs. After the loss of his family Gurgeh became incredible vicious to certain races but deep down retains a warped sense of right and wrong. He has also become somewhat anti-social. After about 12 months on the road, he ran afoul of a group of humans, who tried to hang him and steal what little he had, (but mainly because he was an asshole to them). After a vicious fight, including Gurgeh biting the nose off one of his attackers, he was hit over the head and knocked out. He awoke to find that he had been dragged out of the town and was standing on a stool with his hand tied behind his back. He then noticed the noose around his neck, which was attached to a tree branch above his head. Without warning or ceremony, the stool is kicked from under his feet. Taman and Breena saved him. They found Gurgeh hanging from the tree, the noose stretching his neck and slowly closing his throat, going unconscious from a lack of blood to the head. They saw the last thing he did before he lost consciousness was to curse and spit the severed nose at the humans (no idea how he managed to keep in his mouth until then) Gurgeh came to and found himself in a camp recovering from his injures, it was clear someone had treated his wound. Breena and Taman introduced themselves, and explained they had fought off the humans. After some food, Breena explained they were forming a crew of Adventures (Name still under debate – GGC remains number one suggestion) It took her about 2 hours to get to the point, with many diversions into rants about gems. Gurgeh owed them his life and asked to join. He didn’t want any share of the booty but would only need supplies, occasional room and board. If asked, Gurgeh would admit he joined because of the life debt and hatred in his heart that gave him a lust for revenge; plus, partial death wise. What he would not admit, even to himself, was he had become very lonely. Gurgeh doesn’t know why they saved him and has never asked. For reasons beyond his understanding both Breena and Taman go out of their way to make sure Gurgeh is well fed and clothed while on and off missions, even while he can be incredible difficult to be around. Taman and Breena are the closest thing to friends or family that Gurgeh has (before Narvarre). But he would never admit it. In Narvarre he has found a creature he can be affectionate with, for the first time in such a long time. As the crew has grown (with Gregor Uth Wistan and Wilster Elumo joining) Gurgeh has let down his guard more and he thinks he is becoming less anti-social (not everybody would agree)

The Campaign before the Campaign Vol.1

Gurgeh is a Half-Elf from Silverymoon. Mother an unknown Elf and his father who raised him, Jernau Morata a human and Baker by trade. He had a pleasant and comfortable childhood. Jernau was a kind and patient man. He ran a moderately successful business and provided well for himself and only child. Jernau never married. Gurgeh, while comfortable, did always fantasize about what high born family his mother must have been from and what kind of life he would have had. His father would just laugh and say he was better off not knowing the truth. The only time his father would ever get angry was if the issue was pushed too far. This anger always too the same form; shouting 'leave it' and storming out of the room, return a few hours later as if nothing had happened. When Gurgeh came of age, he entered an apprenticeship with a Ranger his father knew through trade. Jernau had hoped he would take over the family business. Gurgeh wanted more; more excitement, more adventure and in the long-term more than just Comfortable. He had dreamed of riches as a child and wanted them for his family. Gurgeh never took his father's name in protest of his father never revealing who his mother was. Many years later he would meet Mylaela, an Elf, and they would get married and start family. By this stage Gurgeh had amassed a small fortune, always saying he would use this to move the family back to Silverymoon. But in reality, he loved the frontier and had become obsessed with collecting riches for the sake of it, just to have more. In his village he was a big fish in a little pond, while in Silverymoon (with the riches he had) he would still just be the son of a baker with a few extra coins. Gurgeh has returned to Silverymoon a handful of times over the years. To Gurgeh's knowledge his father is still alive, approx. 75 years old now. He has not been back since before his family were killed
