Besides the standard red, blue, green, black and white chromatic dragons, there are some rarer types of chromatic dragons that exist. Since there is generally very little information about these dragons, they are included on this page under one article.
Brown dragons
Brown dragons, also called great desert dragons, are wingless, neutral evil dragons who laired in deserts. They prefer ambushes to straightforward combat, burying themselves in the sand.
Physical description
They have sand coloured scales, though unlike other types of dragon their scales are leathery. They have small webbed claws and very large, long mouths. Unlike most other types of dragons, they are wingless. To make up for this, they are the most adept diggers, speeding under loose sand very fast.
Combat
Brown dragons prefer ambushes to straightforward fighting. They often bury themselves in the sand and wait for prey, then attack with great fury. Their breath weapon is a line of acid, which reduces most animals to little more than sand and dust.
Lair
A brown dragon typically lives in a large cave, underground chamber, deep underwater the desert sand, or an abandoned desert temple. Surprisingly, their diet mostly consists of minerals, mostly sand, but they have a particular taste for horses.
Purple dragons
Purple dragons, also called deep dragons, are slender, agile dragons, who patiently stalk their prey. They live in the Underdark and are rarely found on the surface. Purple dragons often ally with drow, and consider themselves rivals of cloakers and mind flayers. They have a psychic breath weapon that confused and disorientates their target.
Physical description
Despite their large size, deep dragons are slender and agile, allowing them to crawl through the tunnels of the Underdark. In the light, the dragon's scales are close to the colour of amethyst, but in the dark, they appear to be nearly black.
Combat
A deep dragon's breath weapon is a psychic and caused the target to be dazed or dominated, depending on the strength of the dragon.
Lair
Pruple dragons inhabit the Underdark and are rarely known on the surface.\
Gray dragons
Gray dragons, also called fang dragons, are rapacious violent dragons that are good at physical combat, but poor aat flying. Some gray dragons possessed an acid breath weapon.
Physical description
Fang dragons are poor flyers, with small muscled wings. Their eyes tend to be either red or orange. Their heads are edged with spikes as well as their bodies that tend to be covered in bony plates that end in spurs at the joints. Their tales are forked with scythe-like tips.
Combat
Fang dragons are skilled at physical combat, particularly because their bodies are so lethal. They have a tendency to play with their food and rarely have breath weapons.
Lair
They sometimes seal up their lairs with boulders or other materials before leaving them to hunt for food. They live in cavers not too deep underground.
Yellow dragons
The rarest species of the chromatic dragons, the yellow dragons have only existed of a few individuals spread throughout history. They are solitary predators and are extremely secretive, even among other dragons.
Physical description
Yellow dragons grow up to 116ft (35m) in length, smaller than a brass dragon. They are born with soft, tan-coloured scales. As they age, the scales become harder and lighter in colour, turning into a yellow-grey by adulthood. Their claws, scales and teeth are all blended into the desert background, giving yellow dragons amazing camouflage abilities.
Combat
Yellow dragons prefer ambush over direct attacks. They are fierce fighters and usually during combat they will use spells and their innate abilities to mislead and confuse their opponents. Their breath weapon is a high-speed blast of super-heated air and sand.
