The black briars were one of the many noble houses in Roseport, and was among the richest families of the city, having made a fortune off of trading and money lending.

while there are a few notable members of their extended family, the main line of the Black Briar noble family is rather limited.- Victoro Blackbriar: lord of the family. heir to Caladorn, an adventurer of some renown.
- Ammalia Blackbriar: Wife of Victoro. adept lepidopterologist.
- Osvaldo Blackbriar: first child of Ammalia. heir to Victoro. has been mission, presumed dead, for several years.
- Elzarina and Terenzio Blackbriar: young, twin children of the Blackbriars.
History
the black briars were elevated to noble status in the year 1248, when the lords of roseport recognized several merchant houses, granting them status and seals. despite extensive research, their history prior is unknown.
they gained renown in the year 1369, when they loane
d out 20 million gold to several lords and race tracks with a huge interest rate. the year was marked by the goddess tymora's luck going out of control all over the realm. every single gambler at the many race tracks around the city picked the winning numbers, causing disastrous losses to their owners.
in 1566, a skeleton wearing black briar garb was seen attacking a group of roseport denizens. while the cause was found to be a novice necromancer practicing illegally in the city of the dead, this still resulted in a string of misfortune and bad publicity for the family. this, combined with the disappearance of their teenage son, lead several of the tabloids (and the paranoid readers who believed them)
in early 1573, the Black Briars introduced themselves to (insert team name later) and offered them a considerable loan, to pay for the reconstruction of troll skull manor and inn.
