The Trial

In the court room, Jaquette became concerned that her magic was simply not working, Lucky began drinking, and Rolen asked one of the Inevitables to summon Slim. Barnes and Marts came back, and Marts allowed Barnes to speak. The Noble Barnes told the party that he spoke with the Judge and informed him of the extenuating circumstances, and they have come to an equitable arrangement. He strongly encouraged the party to agree to the arrangement. The judge, the honorable Kai-garn Triskin, walked into the court and sat at the bench. Lucky recognized the judge as a Gith. The Judge explained that there is a rogue Nonoton that needs to be disabled and some sort of smuggling ring that needs to be disbanded. If the party accepts the mission, they will be granted limited immunity and 2 temporary magical use licenses. If the party succeeds in the mission, they will be granted the appropriate robes of knowledge signifying their achievement for the greater good of Mechanus and they would no longer need to worry about minor law infractions such as inappropriate greetings. The party agreed.
The judged granted the party the status of “Mechanus Exemptus Tier 1” and presented each of the 5 members a badge. He explained that this status does not excuse them from breaking greater laws such as murder, stealing, deceiving, envy etc. He also provided 2 temporary magical use licenses that will grant 2 the ability to use magic but strictly in the context of this assignment. He then rattled off a series of instructions and directions that the party needed to follow to find the location of this reported rogue Nonaton.
The judge explained that the party must first: “Go to Building 5 in Sector 3, Subsection 6, District 2. Do not destroy anything; simply stop the pendulum. Once that is done, you can unlock the gate in Building 7 by turning on Switch 2 in Sphere 1 within Building 6. Through the gate go down 23 levels to level 32 and follow the passageways. There are repairs needed on this level. An order has been placed for repairs that have been scheduled some time between noon and 5 on 2nd day of the week, 3 tendays from now. Seek and find a Crystal, stop whatever shenanigans are going on there, and return here with an inevitable Crystal and the law will be fulfilled.”

Deep into Mechanus

Lucky considered bringing Seven but realized that their mission to destroy rogue monodrones may be compromised by bringing a rogue monodrone. They decided to leave him and provided him a cloak to disguise him.
The party did an excellent job recalling the details and finding their way to Building 5 in Sector 3, Subsection 6, District 2. They made their way flying, jumping, diving through the spinning gears, dodging the teeth in the cogs and found the swinging pendulum. There was a piston slamming into the pendulum keeping it moving. The party studied and contemplated how to stop the pendulum for some time. Eventually Anna flew up to the top and tried to push the pendulum along the bar, and out of the way from the striking piston. The rest of the party joined in and together they were able to push the pendulum out of the way from the piston, effectively stopping it without breaking it. They made their way out of Building 5 dodging the spinning gears again. They found Building 6 that had 4 Spheres in it. They remembered that they need to flip Switch 2 in Sphere 1 but they had no idea which was Sphere 1 since none were numbered. Lucky made a guess and reached into the first sphere to the left of the door and switched the 2nd Switch from the left.
They went into what they guessed with Building 7 and found a large Iris on the floor that was closed. Anna stayed in Building 7 watching the Iris and Lucky tried to find the right switch. Through trial and error, they eventually found the right switch and the Iris opened. Again, they successfully jumped through and across the spinning gears and down through the opened Iris.
They made their way down to Level 32 and followed the passageway. Dodging the gears, they came to a junction in the hallway. Following the hallway to the south, they had some difficulty getting across a couple cogs and only Tyrus passed unharmed. At the end, they found a door with a lighted panel just to the right of the door. They spoke to the box, put their hands on it, but everything they tried resulted in a short buzz and the door did not open. Anna and Tyrus followed the hall back to the north and found another locked door that had a similar box to the side of it. Frustrated, they headed back to Lucky and Rolen.
Rolen used a gem to cut the glass of the panel and open it up. He reached in grabbed a metallic string inside the panel and pulled it. They heard a click and Lucky was able to slide the door slightly.

A small group of rogue monodrones.

Anna and Tyrus showed up just as the doors were opened (Jaquette remained in the hallway.) Anna spotted 3 glowing stones on the floor and a Monodrone, Duodrone, Tridrone, Two Quadrones and a Nonaton guarding the stones. They also saw a pair of double doors on the far wall close. Lucky walked in and tried to persuade the monodrones to stand down. The Nonoton responded by flailing it’s 9 arms against Lucky. The other monodrones s joined the fray as Anna avoided the attacks and grabbed the stones.
Lucky cast slow on most of the monodrones but the Nonaton evaded the spell. It tried to attack lucky but only 2 of it’s 9 arms were able to hit. Lucky was starting to look beat-up. Rolen fired a necrotic bolt at one of the Quadrones and it turned into dust. Tyrus shoved the Nonaton into one of the moving gears and then slashed it with his axe. The Nonaton started attacking Tyrus. Lucky stopped his concentration on slow and cast heat metal on the Nonaton to try to save Tyrus. Unfortunately, that did not work since heat metal only works on objects. The Nonaton proceeded to whale on Tyrus.
Rolen turned his fire upon the Nonaton and Tyrus pulled his greatsword and using an action surge sliced the Nonaton several times. The Tridrone and Quadrones focused their attacks on Rolen but failed to do any serious damage. Anna focused her sunsword on the Nonodrone and sliced deeply into it. Lucky fired a firebolt directly at the very center of the Nonaton and critically hit it. It turned into a sphere of dust. Rolen took out the remaining Quadrones. Tyrus took out the Duodrone. Anna cut off the arm of the Tridrone and the Tridrone turned to dust. Anna grabbed the spear and shoved it into the monodrone. Rolen finished off the Monodrone.

What’s behind the next door?

Anna explained to Lucky that she had collected the 3 stones in the room. Anna destroyed the panel next to the double door and the party opened the door. Inside the next room, they didn’t find any more sentinel stones but they did find another Iris. Next to the Iris was a large dial. Around the dial were symbols representing various planes of existence. Anna turned the dial and a loud noise was heard but nothing seemed to happen.
Lucky said “We’ve accomplished what we came here for. We should go.” But Rolen looked at the symbols and the Iris and suggested they come back here after they deliver 1 stone to the judge. Anna suggested that she stay behind with Tyrus while the 3 guilty go back to the judge.
