With the demilich, Kazit Gul defeated, the party looked to the remaining sepulchers. The black gate hummed slightly and Tyrus walked through prepared to fight. Seeing the party in no immediate danger he warned them that the time is running short. He told them, “Szass Tam has sent another wave of wizards to attack gatehouse, we must hurry.” The rest of the Order of Heroes filled in Tyrus on the recent events and explained that they need to get into these last 2 sepulchers to destroy the remaining phylacteries. Anna explained that opening the doors will release a couple of gargoyles.

The next sepulcher

The party all move onto the next floor towards the furthest sepulcher. Fergewon had folks stand back as he cast dispel magic on doors, hoping to disable the gargoyles. Unfortunately, the spell simply released the magical field binding the gargoyles and the gargoyles began attacking the party. Anna tried to get into the sepulcher but found the door locked. She tried to pick it but her lock picks broke! She screamed out to Jaquette for help and Jaquette transformed into a giant eagle and carried her lock picks to Anna. Tyrus quickly took aim at one of the gargoyles and destroyed it. Fredrik, still enlarged, began stabbing and Jandar began punching. They seemed to be tired as their blows were not very effective. Anna made it into the sepulcher and began disrupting the magic therein. The gargoyles were destroyed, and Anna successfully disrupted the magic. As the magical forces inside the sepulcher were disrupted, everyone felt a strong tremor within the vault. Anna realized that the damage they had already done along with the disruption they were causing within each sepulcher was close to collapsing the demiplane. Anna explained to the group that simply disrupting the magical forces in the last sepulcher would be sufficient to destroy the entire vault. However, everyone should be prepared to leave since the plane will collapse immediately as the magic is disrupted.

The last sepulcher

Anna opened the doors to the last sepulcher releasing the last 2 gargoyles. Fergewon and Lucky immediately paralyzed them, and Anna snuck in quickly and began disrupting the magic. Tyrus again took out one of the Gargoyles and Lucky took out the last. Jandar and Fredrick spent their time within the other sepulchers smashing the various phylactery objects they found (books, rings, teacups, lockets, diadems, snakes, young human males with scars on their foreheads, etc.) The party regrouped before anna completely disrupted the magic in the final sepulcher. Jandar satisfied that the phylacteries in 2 of the 4 sepulchers were destroyed, watched as Fredric cast a fireball into the 3rd. Satisfied that the destruction was sufficient, the party planned their escape. Lucky would cast a fireball into the final sepulcher after Anna disrupts the magic. Jandar would hold the black gate open allowing Anna and lucky to escape quickly. The rest of the party would be waiting in the gatehouse. The plan worked flawlessly. Anna disrupted the magic and dashed towards the black gate. A vortex began to form in the center of the Phylactery vault and the demiplane began to collapse. As soon as Anna was clear lucky fired a 5th level fireball into the last sepulcher and stepped through the black gate. As soon as Lucky stepped through, Jandar followed, closing the gate behind him.

A short farewell

The party arrived safely in the gatehouse and were greeted by a grateful, and very nervous Syranna. She expressed her gratitude and told the party, “You fulfilled your end of our deal, I will fulfill mine and send you all to a destination of your choice.” She went on to tell the party, “You have proven yourselves to be great warriors, if you should wish to continue to aid us in our battle, it would be greatly appreciated.” The party asked if she would be able to send everyone to different locations and she told them, “No. I will send everyone to one location.” The party asked for a bit of time and Syranna agreed to give them 1 hour to make their decisions. Lucky offered to make a feast, for everyone but the guards were too busy preparing for battle to take time to eat. Jandar looked into Syranna’s eyes and realized that she was worried. She was confident in her belief that they would be victorious, but she really hoped for some additional help. Jandar approached Syranna privately and showed her the puzzle box. He asked if she had any wizards who could help with this. She said “I might. But we have a battle to fight first.” The party agreed that Waterdeep would be a great destination. From there Anna could get a ship to where she needed to go and the others were a short journey to Dragonford. Jandar however told the party that he would stay and assist Syranna and the resistance. They all sat down to a delicious meal and Lucky left plenty of food for a victory feast for the remaining forces after they won their battle. Syranna returned and said, “It is time.” Jandar told her he would stay, and the others would like to go to Waterdeep. Syranna thanked them all for what they had done and was grateful for Jandar’s assistance. She told the rest of the party “Stand in the 3rd circle and hold hands.” They did and she sent them off to Waterdeep.
