Dreeston Port

A naval centre for shipping and international trade, Dreeston Port is a large hub for sailors and merchants alike. With large harbourfront located on the southern coast of Eastmarch and at the edge of the Eastern Channel allows for Dreeston Port to have a high capacity of trade and import. Dreeston Port is teeming with fishers and sailors, as well as being the home to the leader of Clan Garrick, Veldon. Their unique rule has allowed for a flourishing market and interesting concept of law. If it's paid for and signed, it's legal. Contracts are written up by Clan Garrick, reviewed and if the contract would end in the benefit of Clan Garrick, it's generally approved. If it isn't going to make them money, or in their best interest, it is rejected. A unique epicentre of interesting, exotic, and toxic goods from all walks of the world.

Government

The political system here is far different from the other cities within Eastmarch, Clan Garrick, who own the Merchants guild, and have a seat on the Emperor's council, have chosen to run Dreeston Port with more of a mercantile approach. Nothing is illegal with the proper permits. With a simple fee paid to Clan Garrick, you can post up shop wherever you'd like, or, have your name cleared from most crimes. Mind you, the one law within Dreeston is that you do not cross a Garrick clan member, otherwise, the laws and contracts you might have signed are all null and void in the Garrick's eyes.

Defences

A merchant vessel patrols the edges of Dreeston Port, to most a normal sight, to Dreestonians this, is their ultimate defense. A large warship with a multitude of cannons and crew waiting below deck, disguised as a merchant vessel lurks in wait for any naval infractions or invasion from the Koltain Sea. Various lookout towers litter the docks with signal bells and a large lighthouse at the end of an extended dock houses 3 cannons to defend the port, also acting as a functional lighthouse.

Industry & Trade

The epicentre of international trading and imports Dreeston Port has access to almost every single resource imaginable, though can be difficult to procure, as all shipments are usually accounted for and headed deeper into The Reach. There are some shops within the town that purposely purchase some of the shipments themselves so as to maintain an edge within the town and to sell exotic items from far off lands. Dreeston has trade agreements with Al Hakaar, Khorvaire and Oyami which contribute different resources. Frequent shipments by land and through the Eastern Channel deliver spices from Tu' Ra' Nil. Though a little damp and dingy Dreeston Port holds all kinds of curios industries and merchants alike. Due to Clan Garrick and their legislature of the City, you can many different shops and carts selling various goods of the unsavoury kind. Many things that are illegal in other cities are not in Dreeston Port. As a result of this end Clan Garrick's open trade policies there are two completely separate ports. One for chartered and catalogued goods, and the other for normally illegal goods. In this port no records are kept as to keep plausible deniability for when the goods possibly leave Dreeston. The Garrick's are open about their dealings and have no shame in the way they conduct business, however, the goods are illegal again once they leave the City. Contracts indicate that goods of this kind are to be sold within the city, however this does not stop certain arrangements being made, and it does not stop the buyers from leaving with the illegal good(s).

Infrastructure

Dreeston Port has a unique design with docks at every turn. The town itself has been built far into the coastline and some of the stores and houses are attached to the docks themselves. Almost creating the illusion of canals between the wooden 'streets'. Dreeston Port also has the largest and longest docks in all of Eastmarch they are capable of holding and stowing multiple large vessels and continue to operate at the other various docks. A large section of sanctioned and chartered docks in the western end, and a section of unsanctioned and 'off the books' docks in the eastern end leading into the eastern channel.

Guilds and Factions

To those who know of it, one of the outlets of the Thieves Guild lies in Dreeston Port. Similar in structure to the adventurer's guild they are free to operate openly in Dreeston as a registered business with a contract. In other Cities the guild operates from fronts, however, Dreeston maintains a large guild hall and tavern openly known to the public as the Thieves Guild.

Architecture

Wood, and more wood. The buildings are all made of wood and the docks are all fashioned out of wood, even the majority of the 'streets' are wooden as a plentiful amount of homes, fishermen, craftsmen and merchants build their abodes on the large wooden docks. With the only real stone is within the small manor/castle where Veldon and part of the Garrick clan reside conducting their business.

Geography

The surrounding land mass is similar to that of Ur'win City with farmlands abundant in the northern and western end of town, and not far from Dreeston Port many forests grow along the various rivers. To the east of the port a large channel flowing towards The Crag and the Badlands that eventually tapers off and meets with the one of the major forests of Eastmarch Gnarwood Forest.

Natural Resources

As this is a massive trading port the resources coming through Dreeston are quite abundant. However, as far as natural resourses go, the forest to the east, Gnarwood, supplies Dreeston Port with plentiful supply of wood, as well as being on the coast Dreestonians have access to an endless supply of fish and seafood. Lacking in minerals, stone or metal, however easily supplemented by the frequent shipments from Al' Hakaar.
