Sariel Galanodel
Sariel Galanodel
Much of Sariel's childhood was spent pouring over ancient tomes & forgotten grimoires. Such is the life of any child raised in a library. Especially a wizard's library, deep in the Winterwood far east of Calimshan. Now, Sariel had lived in that library for as long as she could remember, with naught but the dear old librarian who worked there to care for her. Well, she called him a librarian, he was, in fact, a kindly, but wildly eccentric wizard. Even though he was human, to her...he was father.

Identifying Characteristics
Sariel has the symbol of Sehanine Moonbow tattooed on her right hand. As well as this, her ears are especially long, even by elf standards
Physical quirks
Despite her bookish nature, Sariel always maintains long, well manicured nails colored black by magic. Her short, messy hair is also often in her way, causing her to constantly tuck it behind her ear.
Special abilities
As a Moon Elf, Sariel has many abilities not afforded to the younger races, however it's her intellect & thirst for knowledge that makes her truly special
Apparel & Accessories
Black knee-high travelling boots, navy blue trousers topped with a myrad of belts & pouches. To top off her outfit is a large vermillion cloak, well suited to travelling & often belted around her waist. She has forgone the traditional backpack for an over the shoulder satchel in which she keeps her 1st edition copy of Sammaster the Mad's Tome of the Dragon, her various quills & inks & other assorted necessities. On it's own belt is her grimoire, an ancient, black thing bound in mithril & leather with a large moonstone in it's center. The magical notes inside are understandable only by Sariel.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
As cliché as it is, Sariel has never known her parents. She supposes she has some somewhere, or had some at least. In any case she's never seen them, nor has she heard their names. As far as she's concerned Melinar is her father. Or...Melinar the Magnanimous as he's want to call himself. A great wizard for sure, a great father? Questionable, but Sariel thinks the world of him. So, Sariel grew up in a magical library owned by what seems to be an eternally old wizard who likes to refer to himself as magnanimous. Unsurprisingly, she turned out to be somewhat of a magical prodigy, learning her first spell before reaching physical maturity at age 16. However, at the age of 80, Melinar, being especially experimental with magic, suffered from a major accident and unfortunately perished. Sariel refused to leave the Library for some time, surrounding herself with her father's things and immersing herself in his notes. Especially interested in his notes on Dragons & their history & Lore. One day however, maybe an accident, maybe touched by destiny, during one of her own experiments, the Library was destroyed. Left with very little, only Melinar's grimoire & the clothes she was wearing on her back she ventured out into the Winterwood, a task she had never taken before. It was on her journey out that she would discover her staff, what she would later name Froustmourne in the ruins of another tower. Her travels took her to the Sword Coast, and there she's been ever since.
Gender Identity
Sariel identifies as a woman
Sexuality
Sariel has no one preference, if she is into someone, she's into someone.
Education
Having been raised by a wizard, Sariel's education is largely arcane in nature, though she has excellent problem solving skills as well & a large reservoir of knowledge on the subject of dragons & spellcrafting.
Employment
Sariel has never had a traditional "employer" as you would call it. She does however offer her skills as a wizard & loremaster of many things for coin in her travels. Not to mention that delving ruins for lost lore can also lead to some nice treasure.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Sariel is very acomplished at her survival outside her library home. Having never left before the accident, fate was not on her side. Screw surviving, she's been all but thriving on the road.
Failures & Embarrassments
Sariels greatest failure & embarassment will always be the destruction of her father's library. She knows that experimenting with creating new magical spells is dangerous, but mores the reason for her to be ashamed at her cataclysmic failure.
Mental Trauma
Sariel is still fairly young, she has yet to develop any serious mental traumas, give her time though. The life of an adventurer is not an easy one.
Intellectual Characteristics
Bright, cheery and just a little bit sarcastic, Sariel can often let her thoughts get away from her. Ending up with her just prattling on forever about whatever she was talking about. Living alone for so long has also caused her to develop a habit of voicing her thoughts out loud, a trait that is worrying to some other folks.
Morality & Philosophy
Sariel is at heart, a good person, she believes in doing good for goods sake, however she also has an enormous thirst for knowledge, and sometimes this can get the better of the logical part of her brain.
Taboos
Sariel hates the destruction of knowledge & sees it as a sin. Even if the knowledge is dark by nature, how are we to keep from repeating these problems if we don't know about them.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Sariel wants to create her own spell. There are so many great wizards with their own magic; Melf's Acid Arrow, Tasha's hideous Laughter, Tenser's Floating Disc. She is on a quest for knowledge in order to perfect her spellcrafting skills.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Sariel is intellectually towering, however her physical skills are a bit lacking. She also cannot sing. Luckily she is not want to.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes: Learning, Libraries, the smell of ink & long walks under the moon
Dislikes: Running, ignorance & rats
Virtues & Personality perks
Knowledge is power, as they say, and Sariel is anything but lacking in that aspect. Ask her, & it's possible she's read it somewhere.
Vices & Personality flaws
Sariel has a tendency to talk waaaay more than is needed, and for some reason, is fairly convinced of her own indestructability(All evidence to the contrary).
Personality Quirks
Sariel always mumbles to herself, sometimes going so far as to talk to herself out loud. A leftover from living alone for so long. She also 'always' has perfectly manicured nails, often using minor magic to alter their color. Frequently black, or deep blue.
Hygiene
"Cleanliness is close to godliness, as they say" -Sariel
Social
Contacts & Relations
She has known Garret Redshield for long enough to consider him a friend, and has several friends throughout the wizarding world that she has met through her travels. She is also beginning to like her new companion, though she reserves complete friendship for when she knows more about her.
Family Ties
Sariel doesn't know much about her true family. She didn't know much about the past of the man who raised her, for that matter.
Religious Views
Sariel pays special homage to Selune & Mystra, as they resonate closest to her personal worldview.
Social Aptitude
When amongst like-minded people, she is grand, however her constant talking & tendency to fall into jargon can leave her a bit tiring.
Mannerisms
Sariel talks with her hands, gesturing wildly & excitedly. It's also very easy to get her going about random topics, as she has many she's passionate about.
Hobbies & Pets
Reading, & Ravens, what self respecting wizard doesn't have a raven? Well, she doesn't...but it will happen!!!
Speech
Sariel's voice is fast, soft & melodic, though it gets hard to understand her the more she's interested in a topic.
Wealth & Financial state
5gp, one rare tome, & one 'very' old magical grimoire.

A young elf with a thirst for knowledge, Sariel has spent the better part of her life studying old grimoires in her library home.

A Hero's Welcome
Heroes, that's what they called us. Well I don't feel much like a hero. Sure I was glad to help, but mostly I just wanted revenge for Garret. I tried to reason with myself that he would've died anyways, his lifespan but a fraction of my own, but to no avail. It felt good killing that half-dragon....though I do wish I would've at least gotten his name before we killed him. Maybe Lesile knows. I know she spent some time in their camp after we were ambushed. Speaking of, I can't believe she left me to die! She was distraught over the death of Garret, going so far as to suggest resurrection and I get left in a corpse pile?! Oh well, the fight or flight instinct does strange things to folks, so I'll try not to begrudge her too much. Where was I then? Ah yes, heroes. While I do not feel the part. The people of Greenest think me one nonetheless, and I am thankful for the aid they have offered. Despite Lesile's feelings on the subject, we desperately needed the help. Especially if we are to continue what is most likely a fool's errand in attempting to stop the return of Tiamaut. Those sorts of things require heroes of legend, Like Elminster. Although, I am a bit more equiped, as our escapades & my studies in what remains of my free time has greatly increased my magical reserves. It took me a while, but I also have mastered yet another of Tasha's spells. While I do not agree with her moralities, I do love her spellwork. They are all usefull, & rather interestingly crafted spells. hopefully, as my career as a hero goes on, they will serve me well. The gods know I need the help. Oh! Speaking of gods. I seem to have been blessed. Mayhaps Sehanine has pitied me, or maybe my devotion to her has garnered me just a little bit of favor. The night after our raid on the cultist compound, while I went through my nightly trance, I had a dream of sorts, not one from before, as I am far to young for things of that sort, but strange nonetheless. When I woke however, all I could remember is a hauntingly beautiful melody. Oh, and the most interesting part?! I seem to have been gifted a small bit of clerical magic. Not much mind you, but I seem to be able to call down streaks of moonlight, like drops off of Sehanine's staff(a form of Sacred Flame I presume), as well as stabilize the dying & cast the spell cure light wounds, although in a much more limited fashion than the former two. I shall strive to be worthy of this blessing, no matter how small. -From the Journal of Sariel, Wizard of the Winterwood
The death of a Giant
27th of the Claw of Sunsets 1489 DR
A giant has died this day. There is no curse in Elvish, Draconic or the tongues of Men fit for the slime-sucking wyrmspawn who killed him. What am I to do without him? He was the one to put damper to my curiosity & overenthusiasm. The one who made sure I ate, slept & took care of myself amongst my studies. He was my constant companion for the last 5 years. He was my first friend, my best friend. Hells, he was my only friend. How will I fill his boots, as big as they were? How does one fill the space of one so large, in both spirit & body. I do not know, but I must try. -In the shaky, spidery-hand of Sariel Galanodel.
Dragons! & Greenest Aflame!
26th of the Claw of Sunsets 1489 DR
"A dragon! A real live dragon! Never in all my years have I seen such a magnificent, and terrifying, sight! The others weren't so impressed as I, but they were over-occupied with the death & destruction it wrought. Don't get me wrong, the sight of Greenest aflame was indeed sobering, but it did little to stem the tides of my enthusiasm. Oh how I wish I could've had time to speak with him, though I have little doubt that he'd be in any mood to do anything other than strike me down, or in fact toy with me as the cat does the mouse. Something which he in fact did. His apparent workings with the Cult of Dragons have me more worried then the destruction wrought by one young blue dragon however, as their ilk are more of a kind to raise dragons into dracoliches, not work with live ones. I'll have to consult the Tome of the Dragon, to see if Sammaster the Mad has anything to say on the matter. Bloodshed & fire aside for now however, as I am as giddy as a young girl in the spring to be travelling with Garret again, his crass humor & dogged persistence is a breath of fresh air to my normally bookish lifestyle. A girl can't all be books & ancient lore you know! Then there is my newest travelling companion, Lisle. I've never met an Eladrin before, though she seems does just seem to be an 'especially fey' forest elf. Her temperment is generally friendly, though sarcastic, a bit haughty & definitely showoffish. She has the air of an entertainer about her. She says she's some kind of nobility? I wasn't aware of such a thing. It definitely bears additional research. Mayhaps she'll let me pick her brain for information. I'd love to visit the Feywild someday anyways. Titania's Summer Court is supposed to be a sight to behold! I kind of feel for her however, as she is set for marriage soon, and is seeking adventure & excitement before her eventual settlement. For all my studiousness mine is a wild heart. I love to travel, to see new places & meet new people. I could never settle down in once place like that again. Once I might have, but ever since the accident I've developed a wonder for discovery. Oh, I'm rambling again...embarrassing...well, if one can't ramble in their own journal then where can one? Back to buisness however. Greenest Aflame, yes. We did our best to save as many as we could on our way to the keep. We did have a rather rough time of it though. Ah! I've remembered what I wanted to say regarding Lisle! Her friend, I forget his name, he was the one with the book I was set to study. How fortunate for our paths to intertwine like that! I do hope we find him, for it would be ill news indeed for a tome on the lore & power of dragons to fall into the cult's hands. Oh, and for his own health.
