Session 26: You Didn't Say Anything About A Bat! Report

General Summary

Its magic having grown weak with the defeat of Brysis, the Tomb of Khaem sank beneath the waters of the Darklake as the party pushed away from it.   After another strange shared dream, Jaaski and Tanebi woke to find their fellow escapees arguing amongst themselves. Suspecting some form of poisoning for Eldeth (though unaware of Sarith's suspicions of drow poison), they were all blaming each other for her illness. The four Heroes of Greenest tried to calm their allies down, but their shouting managed to attract a large, humanoid bat flanked by a half-dozen bats that seemed to be made of skin.   A battle was joined, and while the bats of skin seemed to be vulnerable enough, the humanoid seemed to be resistant to normal damage, and exhuded a heat that made the spellcasters wary of trying fire spells. Eventually, they were able to discover the creature's weakness; its fire powers seemed to make it susceptible to cold damage, and with Crim's ice spells and Jaaski's weapon having been made magic (temporarily), they were able to drive it off. It revealed its name, Camazotz, before throwing several swarms of bats at the party as a last act of spite before fleeing.   They hardly got far enough to breathe easy, however, when a rockfall occurred, triggered by all the high-pitched screeching. The party made the split-second decision to protect their boats by attacking the rocks; while the boats received only cosmetic damage, Crim was hit before she could repel her rocks, which she took the next day to rest up from. After an encounter with a darkmantle (which was slain and harvested for food), they called it a day.   The next morning, they came upon a set of duergar-made locks; this gave Hemeth some relief, as it meant that they were a mere day from Gracklstugh. While operating the locks, the group encountered two different boats; one crewed by duergar, and one crewed by kuo-toa fleeing Sloobludop. They traded with both; the first for smithing supplies and the second for food, and went to sleep in the evening, eager to take refuge in the City of Blades.

Rewards Granted

Jewelry wrapped up in the skin bats did not dissolve with their former owner's deaths, but clattered to the boats below. There seems to be two pieces of jewelry per boat, and each is made of copper; beyond that, however, they will need to be appraised of value.   The party was also able to trade for three boxes of magic-rich iron ore, which can be used in crafting magic items.
