Session 25: Khaem and Went Report

General Summary

Last time, the group escaped Sloobludop aboard three keelboats (made of zurkhwood) that had been prepared by Ploopploopeen. The crew of each was as follows.   Lead Boat (Boat 1):
  • Jaaski
  • Tanebi
  • Stool
  • Hemeth (the duergar rescued from the ritual)
  • Rati
  • Fargas
Middle Boat (Boat 2):
  • Hestan
  • Buppido
  • Topsy
  • Turvy
  • Jimjar
Rear Boat (Boat 3):
  • Crim
  • Prince Derendil
  • Ront
  • Sarith
  • Eldeth
Tanebi related to Jaaski the identity of Demogorgon, and expressed worry that such a powerful demon had come to the Material Plane. Hemeth and Fargas, meanwhile, pooled their resources (Hemeth's familiarity with the Darklake and Fargas's research into the Tomb of Khaem) and utilized the map from Shuushar to guide the party through the Darklake.   On the first day of travel, the boats managed to avoid crashing into stalagmites under the water. During the night, Topsy went overboard. She was rescued just before a strange, manta ray-like creature would have attacked, and the boats sped away.   On the third day, the boats managed to avoid a whirlpool during the day. During the night, Rati told a story about the kobold Guardian, Kurtulmak, though Jimjar argued with her over the version of the tale he knew.   The Tomb of Brysis Khaem was located on the fourth day, its magic allowing it to float with its uppermost floor above the surface of the water. After anchoring their boats, Jaaski, Tanebi, Hestan and Crim, along with Fargas and Ront, delved into its depths. They encountered resistance, in the form of specters of Brysis's servants, before they could discover and reach her true tomb. However, her vengeful spirit, animated as a wraith through unknown means, attacked them there. Fortunately for them, they were aided by a surprising ally; Brysis's own sword, buried along with her. The sun blade was sentient, and flew into Jaaski's hands; its blade helped them to banish the wrathful spirit of the sorceress for good. With her defeated, the group liberated the tomb of all its remaining valuables.   Their victory was soured, however, upon their return. Eldeth suddenly took ill, and it was only the timely intervention of Sarith and Tanebi that managed to keep her alive. Worried about her health, she was placed on the lead boat so that Tanebi could keep an eye on her, and Rati was sent to the rear boat to replace her.   Before continuing, Sarith shared his concerns with Jaaski and Tanebi; Eldeth's symptoms were identical to a rare kind of drow poison that he knew of. Though the formula was beyond him, he was more than familiar with its effects. Though uneasy, the group had no further leads to follow, and so they made to leave, in case the Tomb had more nasty surprises waiting for them.

Rewards Granted

Jaaski retrieved a sentient sun blade named "Sword of Dawn" from the sarcophagus of Brysis Khaem, but as she prefers her axe, she bestowed it on Tanebi (with the sword's permission).   Though it will need to be divided properly later, the party gathered the following treasure: 2 gold bracelets, an ivory wand, an onyx ring, a silver necklace set with three gemstones, a gold ewer, a gold-handled walking stick, a gold censer with platinum filigree, a thin gold sheath from Brysis's sarcophagus, eleven zircons, 4,000 sp, 1,200 gp, a necklace of fireballs, a potion of greater healing, and a strange pink potion.
