Session 24: Hidden Amongst Scales Report

General Summary

After a very vivid nightmare for both Jaaski and Tanebi, the party approached the kuo-toa settlement of Sloobludop. They were confronted by maddened kuo-toa that attempted to capture them for sacrifice. The party fought back, slaying their foes, but were ill at ease when the fishfolk merely whispered "Leemogoogon" with their last breath.
After getting to the village, they were approached by another group of kuo-toa, though this group was led by an individual asking for the party's help in stopping a sacrificial ritual. After finding out that one of the intended sacrifices was one of the missing kobolds, they agreed, and were given a short time to prepare. During this time, Shuushar returned home, granting the party a map of the Darklake and showing them a teleportation circle within his dwelling.
The party, pretending to be sacrifices to the ritual, interrupted the ceremony and began battling the assembled kuo-toa, aided by the group that had approached them. As they did, however, something (or things) began to stir in the water of the Darklake. Upon Jaaski decapitating the archpriestess in charge, her severed head gave a horrible smile, and something enormous broke through the surface of the water not far away; a huge, two-headed demon towering as high as a building, with hatred and rage blazing in its four yellow eyes.
Demogorgon, the Prince of Demons, had appeared.
The party, knowing discretion to be the better part of valor, took the kobold to three waiting keelboats, and were followed by a duergar who had also been intended as a sacrifice. As they were pushing off, however, several of the party expressed guilt leaving the settlement at the mercy of Demogorgon without taking some sort of action. Thus, Crim, Hestan, and Tanebi peppered the demon lord with arrows and spells, drawing his attention away from the village. Unfortunately, they also drew his ire, and the group had to work to keep their balance as they rowed away with all their might while the Prince of Demons followed. Eventually, to their fortune, they outpaced him enough that he gave up on the chase, returning to wreak havoc on what was left of the village.

Rewards Granted

Shuushar gives the party a map of the Darklake that he had tucked away at his home. As payment for interrupting the sacrifice to the "Deep Father", the party was given a potion of healing and a potion of water breathing, and a string of pearls that looks valuable but has not yet been appraised.

Missions/Quests Completed

• Successfully reached Sloobludop, returning Shuushar home.
• Rescued Rati, one of the four missing Blue Fang Kobolds, as well as a duergar named Hemeth, who together with their map can help them navigate the Darklake accurately.
• Reach Gracklstugh to find a path to the surface.
