Arashi

A large Island in the very eastern most everons of Pasaulis, Arashi has a diverse ecosystem, large population of natives and a unique cultural. Fairly isolated as far as the rest of Pasaulis is concerned the island has had few visitors from other civilizations.

Geography

Arashi is a crescent shaped island located east of South Icarema, approximately 150,000 square miles in area. The island is located closer to the mist enshrouded edge of the world than it is to the Icarema mainland.

The Subarashi Mountain range forms the backbone of the island. The mountain environment is harsh and most inhabitants live along the coast, which extends for 3400 miles. Many rivers fed by headwaters in the mountains provides fresh water to the island's inhabitants.

Ecosystem

The Arashi people live on a diet primarily of fish and other seafood.

Ecosystem Cycles

For most of the year the temperature is pleasant. The short mild winter causes but a brief interlude in the cycle of plant growth and it never gets cold enough to impell hibernation or even reduced activity in local species.

Climate

Arashi has warm and pleasant summers and short but chilly winters.

Fauna & Flora

The island itself has a broad array of indigenous life. Humans are found primarily along the extended coasts. Long shallows, supporting an extensive ecosystem of coral, fish, mollusks and other creatures provide a plentiful food source for the inhabitants.

Natural Resources

There are adequate resources available for the relatively simple life of the fisherfolk of this island. They do not typically use fire, except in very specific circumstances, in the production of metals and laboratory conditions. They have clever archanists among them, mages and sorcerers. Book printing is an art they practice and their Eldrakor immigrants brought in a vast number of books when they arived and continued producing more from the plentiful trees and natural inks that can be produced from the relevant sealife/

History

The story of the Arashi people as they exist today cannot be separated from the The Biomantic Blitz. This war, raging across the sun-scorched savannas and arcane-forged metropolises of the continent of South Icarema, pit the imperial nation of Eldrakor—masters of alchemical fleshcrafting and bio-arcane augmentation—against a coalition of tribal confederacies and nomadic spellweavers. Eldrakor's "Vitaforge Legions," humans enhanced with symbiotic grafts from magical beasts (granting chitinous armor, venomous strikes, or regenerative hides), clashed in brutal campaigns over leyline farms and enchanted forges.

The eventual defeat of the Eldrakor resulted in the cabal of arcane scientists most responsible for the pervasion of the the natural order fleeting to the Firstlight Archipelago, which is dominated by the large Island of Arashi.

The Eldrakor Empire had long had a research station there and maintained good relations with the local people, humans who had migrated to these islands long before Amir Oscare first visited Icarema continents. The difference now was they brought their god, an aboleth, and their religion which the unsophisticated Arashi people quickly accepted.

The expatriate Eldrakites quickly became absorbed by the Arashi. They intermarried with their hosts, starting an arcane academy on the island. within a generation or two they were completely subsumed in the island society.

They had not abandoned their beliefs however, conducting experiments on their children, creating beings adapted to the ocean environment, very useful for a society of fishers and sea harvesters. The modifications were both permanent and also intergenerational, although for reasons the arcane scientists did not understand did not always manifest in each descendent of a family line.

Five or six generations in most of the Arashi were unaware of the origin of some of their ancestors, the arcane modifications they had done on the people, or the origin of their aboleth deity.

As for the aboleth itself, like all such creatures it is ancient beyond though, predating the arrival of Straznik, Myssilwi, and the Twins into the world, i.e. before the coming of the stars. During that time it lurked in primordial oceans. When Cassia gifted the world with magic and the stars herald the coming of the Celestial Deities they swept away the aboleths control of the world.

Hiding from the power of the deities, this aboleth plotted and schemed to one day use its human minions against the deities, now dominating the world. Missteps have let it here to this far island, where it plots even now, to the ignorance of its people.

Tourism

The archipelago gets very few visitors from the South Icarema mainland.

As with many game mechanic principles in Toresta Arashi is a Toresta specific location which allows and explains the existence of a D&D species, the Simic Hybrid, in a way that is independent from its MTG, Ravnica origins.

Arashi is not in Ravnica and the scientists that created the Hybrids in Atashi are not Simic Combine Guild members.
