The seven elements of magic suffuse the world, occasionally erupting in points known as Nodes where their concentration is particularly strong. Even outside Nodes, however, elemental forces shape the land, and each of the thirty-five nations is influenced by a different triplet of elements.   The gods are known to exist, and are known to be multifaceted; each god has dozens of names, depending on where they are worshipped. However, they are always assigned two characteristics that remain constant even despite inter- and intracontinental differences in interpretations of what the gods are supposed to represent.   The Five Peoples of the world — Humans, Elves, Orcs, Dwarves, and Gnomes — make do as best they can, and scholarship is ever advancing, but beneath the veneer of civilization, dark forces seek to control the elemental Nodes, including cults that may in time prove dangerous. But even that may pale in comparison the the dangers in the realm of politics; diplomacy and war, after all, are but a hair's breadth from one another.
