The Fracture
Ever since the first moment of the Banishment, there have been groups who opposed it. After the first dozen years since its creation, the vast majority of the people were thankful for the banishment. General consensus recognized the Gods as better at a distance. A period of peace across Tor followed the banishment, a time unfamiliar to most living people. However, it did not last more than a century.
After 252 years, in the city of Malmerth, The Banishment would be changed forever.
One winter day, in the Northernmost city of Le'Plor, a party of 4 individuals would begin a ritual in the basement of a massive chapel. This ritual was designed to dispel The Banishment, estimated to take two weeks of concentration. However, this process was not undetectable. This ritual caught the attention of the world 2 days in. By the 4th day, a Militia led by the Tredethian King made landfall on the frigid banks of northern Le'Plor. By day 5, a siege was laid on Malmerth. It was day 8 when the assailants were dispatched, though the damage was done.
Although the ritual was not complete, the process left its mark on the enchantment. The effects of the fracture are very unclear though, however, some things are known. Since the fracture, communication with the divine has been significantly easier. Planar travel has also become possible, whereas before that was not the case. Divine creatures used as weapons of war during the Zenith - colloquially referred to as titans, have begun to emerge as well.
The consequences of the fracture are not just physical though. As of the last six centuries the world has been split into political groups that have been shaped by the fracture. The fracture also readjusted many borders across Tor. Laws since the incident have been dramatically shifted towards magic control. Magic items and especially magic weapons are controlled. This also inspired significant research into arcana and how to prevent further chaos.
