Languages

There are many languages that are spoken across the lands of Toldera, each filled with different dialects and speech patterns. Many people, especially adventurers learn to speak multiple languages to better communicate with a vast array of people.

Some languages have dialects, which are spoken by different groups of people who share a similar language but have small changes and differences that separate them from each other. If you learn a dialect in a language, you also learn the base language associated with the dialect. Two creatures that know different dialects can speak to each other with their base language, but cannot understand any spoken words using a dialect they do not understand.
For example: A water genasi knows the Primordial language and the Aquan dialect, and a fire genasi knows the Primordial language and the Ignan dialect. They both can speak, read, and write Primordial, but the water genasi cannot understand the Ignan speech of the fire genasi, and visa versa for the fire genasi with the Aquan speech of the water genasi.
