Flame Blade
2nd-Level Evocation
Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (leaf of sumac)
Duration: 10 minutes
You evoke a fiery blade in your target’s free hand. The flaming blade sheds bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet, and lasts for the duration. If the target lets go of the blade, it disappears, but the target can evoke the blade again as a bonus action during the spell’s duration.
The blade is similar in size and shape to a scimitar, and the target is considered proficient with the flame scimitar. If the target is already proficient at using scimitars, you can change the blade to any other weapon they are proficient in that normally deals slashing damage. The target can attack using the fiery blade with the Attack action, and can use its Strength modifier, Dexterity modifier, or your spellcasting modifier to attack. On hit, the target takes fire damage equal to 3d6 + the modifier of the ability score used in the attack.
The target can use this weapon to perform any of the bladed weapon’s special strike options, using its Special Strike DC or your Spell Save DC. During the spell’s duration, the fiery blade can perform up to three special strikes. This fiery blade also has an additional special strike option available called “Searing Slash”:
Searing Slash
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with this special strike. This special melee attack has a reach of 15 feet. When you hit a creature on your turn with this special strike, the target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 2d6 fire damage at the start of its next turn.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage the blade deals on a normal hit increases by 1d6 for every two slot levels above 2nd.
Spell Lists: Druid, Wizard, Battle Smith Artificer
