Arcane Trickster

An Arcane Trickster is a rogue who dabbles in arcane magic to enhance and widen their capabilities. These rogues learn various magical tricks with the spells they learn that allow them to quickly copy the spells of nearby magic users, invisibly vanish from their attackers, and even steal the magic off their enemies. With this magical repertoire, Arcane Tricksters use their magic to trick their foes and obstruct enemy magic users.

Trickster Spellcasting

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells.

Cantrips: You learn two cantrips from the Arcane Trickster Spell List. You learn another arcane trickster cantrip of your choice at 6th level, 11th level, and 17th level.

Spells Known of 1st-Level or Higher: You know four 1st-level Arcane Trickster spells of your choice. You can cast each spell once at its lowest level and must complete a short rest before you can cast a spell again. If you are 5th level or higher, you can expend one use of your Cunning Tactics to cast a spell again. If a spell requires material components to cast, you must provide the material components before you can successfully cast the spell.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of your arcane trickster spells you know with another spell of your choice from the Arcane Trickster Spell List. The new spell must be of a level which you can cast.

When you reach higher levels in this class, you can learn and cast additional spells. You learn 2 additional spells from the arcane trickster spell list at 6th level, 11th level, and 17th level.

When you reach higher levels in this class, you can also learn and cast spells of higher level. You can learn and cast spells of 2nd level or lower at 6th level, 3rd level or lower at 11th level, and 5th level or lower at 17th level.

Spellcasting Ability: Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for your Arcane Trickster spells, since you learn them through dedicated study and memorisation. You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC or spell attack modifier for an arcane trickster spell you cast.

Spell Save DC = 8 + Your Proficiency Bonus + Your Intelligence modifier

Spell Attack Modifier = Your Proficiency Bonus + Your Intelligence modifier

Arcane Focus: You can use an arcane focus as a spellcasting focus for your Arcane Trickster spells.

Magical Openings

Starting at 3rd level, you know best how to fight magic users and creatures enhanced by magic. You gain an additional way to use your Sneak Attack; you don’t need advantage on your attack roll to use Sneak attack against a target creature if the target creature is affected by a spell or concentrating on a spell, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll. All other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you.

Arcane Veil

Starting at 3rd level, you can weave magic to vanish from your enemies. After you perform an Uncanny Dodge, you can magically turn invisible until the end of your next turn, or until you attack or cast a spell.

Trickster’s Gambit

Beginning at 6th level, you can quickly learn magic from observing others around you.

As a bonus action, you can open your awareness of magic you can see until the start of your next turn. Until the start of your next turn, you study the next spell of 1st-level or higher that is cast by a creature other than you. When you study this spell, you learn the exact spell that was cast (including the level of the spell if it was upcast at a higher level) and can cast it once as if it were one of your arcane trickster spells. After you cast the studied spell, you cannot cast it again until you complete a short rest, or you expend one use of your Cunning Tactics to cast it again. If the spell you studied is a higher spell level than you can normally cast, you can still cast it once upon learning it, but you cannot cast it again by completing a short rest or expending a use of your Cunning Tactics.

You can learn up to two spells in this way at a time, and if you learn a third spell, you must replace one of your two learned spells before you can cast the third spell. You retain all spells you learn in this way until you complete a long rest.

When you reach higher levels in this class, you can learn additional spells at a time using this feature. When you reach 11th level, you can learn up to three spells with this feature, and four spells at 17th level.

Magical Swiftness

Starting at 6th level, your swiftness grants you the ability to strike after using your magic. After you cast one of your Trickster Spells, you can expend one use of your Cunning Tactics to make one weapon attack as a bonus action. You can use this bonus action a number of times equal to your Dexterity modifier (minimum of 1), and regain all expended uses when you complete a long rest.

Spell Thief

Starting at 11th level, you learn how to magically steal the magical secrets and techniques from a spellcaster.

As a bonus action, you can force a creature you can see to make a saving throw against your spell save DC with its spellcasting ability modifier. If the creature fails the saving throw, you immediately cancel the next spell the creature casts within the next minute and steal its knowledge of its casting for the next hour. You learn the exact spell that was stolen (including the level of the spell if it was upcast at a higher level) and can cast it once as if it were one of your arcane trickster spells, or expend one use of your Cunning Tactics to cast it again while you have the spell learnt. If the spell you stole is a higher spell level than you can normally cast, you can still cast it once upon learning it, but you cannot cast it again expending a use of your Cunning Tactics. While the spell is stolen, the creature cannot cast the stolen spell.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short rest.

Arcane Ambush

Starting at 17th level, your spells become harder to avoid. If you cast an arcane trickster spell while hidden or invisible that forces a target to make a saving throw, the target has disadvantage on the initial saving throw against the spell.
