Slackwater is a
Halfling town in northwestern
Sturrowshire where the
Silver Rush slows as it enters the denser mangrove forests of the south. This decrease in river speed lends the town its name. Boats that have traveled rapidly on the
Silver Rush usually find themselves coming to a slower pace, or even a halt…just in time for the merchants of Slackwater to welcome them and relieve them of some hard-earned coin through trade, gambling, and the selling of food and drinks after a long journey.
Slackwater is a decent trading port, as many ships would just as soon offload their goods here than try to weave their way through to other parts of the halfling country. As a result, a more permanent town of structures can be found here than in many other areas.
Slackwater is particularly known for the potency of its local drink, which the halflings call
Potcheen, as well as its excellent food and music. Among halflings being called “as fine as a Slackwater fiddler” is a high compliment indeed, even if a classically trained
Bard might not realize it.
