Blackmaw Void
The sailors of Tol's Seven Seas consider many stretches of sea unlucky, but few are according such universal dread as the Blackmaw Void. Located roughly where the Sea of Sunken Fires and the Bright Sea meet southwest of Azmartheon, the dark waters of the Blackmaw Void seem to be bottomless. Nothing wholesome thrives there, and monsters sometimes rise from the deep, twisted and terrible. Demonic entities attack ships there, storms come from nowhere with terrible fury, uncharted reefs rise and rip the bottoms out of vessels, and maelstroms drag unwary ships to their doom in Dagon's Gullet.
The stories surrounding the region's terrors seem to vary. Some say that they were unleashed in The Rending, birthed from the same evil that created that cataclysmic event. Others say that the Blackmaw Void is a conduit to the Abyss. Still others maintain that Dagon maintains a lair here, complete with a gate to his Abyssal home. Whatever the truth, these waters are dangerous, and almost all sailors would rather sail fully around Keshwan rather than dare this stretch of a voyage.
