Nyxguard (Nix-Guard)

Overview

Nyxguard, also known as "The city of Night", is an ancient fortress that once belonged to a now extinct species, the Veorites. The city is located on a planet called Tenebri the sole body in orbit around an onyx star alongside its thirteen moons. The city is believed to have primarily been used as a research outpost for the study of alternate dimensions and served as a site for the collection and manufacture of powerful cosmic artifacts.

Modern Occupation

In modern days the city serves as a research centre and university for several worlds though with no singular focus unlike its historical occupants. The proximity of the city to several major resources combined with an ambient abundance of ethereal energies make it an ideal place of research for almost any subject though particularly those with a focus on the occult or dimensional studies.
Outside the central structures which now house the main university halls remains to main areas. The Dregs, which are sections of the city long since ruined and presenting anomalous traits that pose a risk to living beings, and the Bazaar, the main market and trade areas which includes a ship dockyard for travel into and out of the city.

Notable Features

The City possesses several unusual features that make the lives of inhabitants anything but uneventful:

• The Architecture of the city itself is sentient, with bridges, buildings and streets often re-arranging themselves to serve the needs and desires of the inhabitants, while an interesting quirk this can make navigation a challenge for newcomers or those seeking to uncover the secrets Nyxguard.


• Due to the city’s close association with other dimensions, residents automatically become part of the cities “gift” with the entire city acting as a conduit to a living dreamscape. While traumatising to new arrivals, sleeping residents find their consciousness whisked away to a shared plane of existence, one where the visitors find the power to shape reality itself with no detriment to the quality of their sleep.
  This dreamscape takes the form of an identical city to Nyxguard and includes some of the surrounding hills, fields and lakes, though all aspects of the city remain unchanged including the sentience of the architecture. The dreamscape allows its visitors to use it as the ultimate relaxation tool for "lucid dreaming" or research tool, allowing concepts and ideas to be visualised instantly. While remarkable, it appears the forces governing this dreamscape have some limits, and the "world" is wiped clean around every 6 days or one planetary rotation.


• Some damaged areas of the city are subject to frequent temporal anomalies, which do not present any danger of permanent temporal dislocation, but can present those unlucky enough to fall into one some harrowing visions of past events.
