Dree

A wretched village on the banks of the Deedlewater, Dree is the vilest settlement consisting of hags, witches, and their failed experiments.

The village of Dree lay beyond a creaking wooden bridge that crossed the murky Deedlewater. Its buildings, uniformly painted black, stood in streets choked with swirling dust. Hags and witches made up most of the residents, though twisted, sorrowful mutants also lurked among them. In the heart of the village, a street market offered strange performances to amuse the uncanny locals.

The place is a desolate and grim village that clings to the banks of the Deedlewater, like a parasite to life, infesting all around it. Originally founded by the exiled sorceress Romeena—once a notorious master of Marrangha’s flesh-warping magic. Cast out from her homeland of Salamonis, Romeena and her loyal disciples carved out this bleak settlement. Over time, the villagers’ dark practices made the place infamous across Allansia. Even hardened mercenaries and adventurers avoid its shadow, whispering that Dree is no place for the sane or the brave.

The village gained a fearsome reputation, not just for its witches, but for the number of merchants who vanished after arriving in search of forbidden wares—curses, potions, and other unnatural curiosities. Many were welcomed with eerie hospitality, only to be drugged, captured, and twisted into abominations through repeated failed experiments. These malformed, broken things now roam Dree’s filth-strewn alleys or serve their cruel creators as thralls and toys. Rare outsiders who happen to glimpse these creatures while navigating the Deedlewater often flee in horror.

However, not all encounters end in tragedy. One merchant, Ganga of Mirewater, earned the witches’ favor by trading rare ingredients essential to their rituals—black herbs, cursed flora, the butchered organs of fey and beast alike. Thanks to Ganga’s example, other traders now risk entering Dree, albeit cautiously and only with goods the witches truly value. One thing certain is that trading with hags and witches never ever end in certainty, as not all the traders leave the village alive, or as themselves.
