Cooking
Cooking in game is more than sustenance—it is a craft that blends skill, preparation, and rare ingredients to create meals that restore morale, bolster strength, and occasionally grant magical benefits. While often treated as flavor, cooking can be formalized as a downtime activity, a support role during travel, or a specialized profession within a campaign. Click here for the list of Food.
A character may cook effectively if they possess:
- Cook’s utensils (knives, pans, spices, portable hearth)
- Access to ingredients
- A heat source (campfire, kitchen, magical flame)
It is not required to be proficient in Cook's utensils to make food. Like Chef Gusto used to say, anyone can cook!
Cooking can be done once as part of a Short Rest. Characters with the Chef feat are able to perform cooking twice per Short Rest (instead of 4 + PB). It generally takes an hour to cook a dish, and can be done during Short Rests as a form of light activity.
