Tui'uli

Tui'uli (she/they) is a character played by Drew/Copper (any) in Ana ote Makutu. They are a hill dwarf, circle of the land (desert) druid.

Description

She is an older dwarfish woman, dressed functionally. She has long steel grey hair and beard, both braided and dyed in places with teal and purple. They are reserved and contemplative, fairly unflappable.

Backstory

When Tui'uli was still rather young, during her second season aboard her family's fishing fleet, the ship she was in was caught in a disastrous storm. It was ripped apart and she managed to survive clinging to scrap wood. Soon after the storm passed, she was becalmed. Tui'uli doesn't know how long they lay there, surviving off fish they caught with their hands and water caught in evaporation. Eventually, they were able to use their magic to land themself on a deserted island.   For many years, Tui'uli lived on the island in isolation. Their magic grew stronger, but they were too scared to set out onto the water again to find their way home. Until they were found by another castaway, a young mage named Felo Kalena. He was a new initiate into the Tagata Pese, and he was determined to return home. And though Tui'uli was much changed by their time alone (most notably in their life philosophy of "what is will be" and belief that society and innovation fight against the natural order of the world), they were not about to let this young man (hardly older than a boy, the same age she was when she got lost) make the journey alone.   So they set out in a boat fashioned from the few trees off the island. Felo and Tui'uli were becalmed on their third day, but between the two's magic, they weren't stuck for long. Just directionless. It took them three weeks to find Opeopea.   Reintegrating into society was not easy for Tui'uli. For many year she stuck close to Felo or members of the Tagata Pese she trusted. She struggled to reconcile the existence of society with the existence of nature, believing that everyone around here was working towards futility in the face of nature's eons.   But she does not have the eons that nature does, she came to realize, and allowing herself connection to a community would not injure nature. So she helps the Tagata Pese with their work as requested, and spends the rest of her time enjoying an existence that isn't fighting for survival.
