The Rosethorn

The Rosethorn is a sentient shapechanging weapon that contains the soul of Rosethorn Bellegarde, the founder of House Bellegarde. Each generation of the family has one person to wield the Rosethorn and protect the family, and the Rosethorn changes shape to take the form of each wielder’s preferred weapon. At the time of The Daughters of House Bellegarde, Leliana Bellegarde is the wielder and the Rosethorn is a greataxe.
The Lavandin Royal Family kept the Rosethorn as a trophy after House Bellegarde was wiped out by then Crown Princess Everly Lavandin's party. It was brought back and hung proudly over King Amias Lavandin's throne until Everly took the throne, where it was locked into the royal vaults immediately.

Death of Amias Lavandin

The Rosethorn, then a greataxe having last been wielded by Leliana Bellegarde, is full of necromantic magic. This necromantic magic sucked the life of Amias Lavandin slowly over time, resulting in his eventual death. Whether Everly Lavandin knew of this when she gifted it to her father or not is unknown.
