Moriah

Moriah (she/her) is a character played by Cole (they/them) in the Oops! All Cowboys one-shot. She is a wood elf sun soul monk, and an entertainer.

Description

She has brassy brown wavy shoulder-length hair, olive skin, hazel eyes. She is 5'8" tall, with a lean and lanky build. She wears loose-fitting flowing clothing and a wide-brimmed hat. She's always wearing heavy steel-soled cowboy boots with a spiked spurs on the heels.   Moriah is friendly and sociable, but can be prone to falling into maudlin moods where she prefers to be left alone. She maintains some distance between herself and others, preferring to stick to small talk and revelry rather than close relationships. She keeps her head down in most situations but cannot abide others having their freedoms restricted. The idea of a jailer or imprisonment is abhorrent to her, and she can't help but look for trouble if such a situation crosses her path.

Backstory

Moriah grew up with her family in the same forest on the edge of the Redwillow Forest and had a relatively quiet and mundane childhood. Things move slowly when you live for 700 years or more. As a teenager, her older sister was killed by a stag in a hunting accident. This affected Moriah deeply, since she realized that even elves don't have all the time in the world. She became frustrated seeing people around her continue to live on like they couldn't just die tomorrow. She began to lapse into ennui and began to drift apart from her family and community, eventually setting out on her own with only brief goodbyes.   Within a few months of barely surviving on her own, she stumbled, barely surviving, on a caravan of dancers and musicians who always followed the setting sun in their travels. She settled with them for some decades, trying to find peace and fulfillment, and learning to dance and play music for a living. She traveled with them long enough to see the older ones age and die, sending her back into an existential crisis. Though she'd always be welcome among them, her newfound family decided she needed to find a peace that they couldn't provide. They maintained friendly trade contact with the monks of the Sun Soul monastery and called in a favor for them to take Moriah in.   Trusting her family and at the end of her emotional rope, Moriah reluctantly agreed. She lived and trained at the Monastery for decades more, mastering the martial arts to become Kasho, though she struggled with her meditative and spiritual training. Sensing that Moriah could not complete her training with her mind clouded by fear of mortality and uncertainty about how to best live, she was told to journey and reflect on her trainings and spirits in the wider world, and to follow her own sun. Once she had found her peace, she could return to complete her training.   She's been doing that for the better part of a century now, living like she was dying and drifting like a tumbleweed from one place to the next, searching for clarity despite not knowing what shape it will take.

Trivia

  • She channels her ki through her fingertips, imitating a pair of pistols. She primarily fights with her boots, alternating Sun Soul ki blasts with rapid kicks.
  • Cole has made a heroforge of Moriah, seen here .
