Gorrick Southstar

Gorrick Southstar (he/him) is a character played by Hal (he/him) in the Battle of Brightgleam Peak one-shot. He is a human monster slayer ranger and an outlander.

Description

Gorrick is 5' 10" and muscular with flowing black hair and stubble. He primarily wears furs and neutral colors. He dual-wields rapiers. Gorrick attempts to be gruff, stern, and severe. This is very difficult when working closely with someone like Dirge. In the course of his work, Gorrick frequently ends up operating with extremely outlandish tactics with a completely straight face.
Gorrick devotes his life to the elimination of horrifying creatures that, in his view, threaten humankind. In his early days, this was focused on monstrous creatures that terrorized small settlements. Through his work for the crown, this expanded to the forces of Hell. This singleminded sense of purpose makes him a bit of a drag at parties, but he's not humorless.

Backstory

Gorrick was left orphaned as a child when a Gorgon rampaged into his small village when he was fetching water. Seeing his parents and other community members left petrified outside their homes, he fled into the forest, not knowing what else to do. Luckily, before the dangers of the forest could claim him, he was found by a silver dragon who happened to be flying overhead as he ran through a clearing.
The dragon took him in and raised him as her own child. In human form, she taught him to hunt, track, swordfight, and otherwise defend himself. She helped him learn to read and write both human and draconic. She taught him right from wrong.
Eventually, it was time for him to leave the nest. He traveled across the countryside, hunting monsters and helping those in need, eventually gathering a reputation for himself and attracting the attention of the crown. The royal family now pays him a retainer, calling him in for help, frequently alongside Dirge, when the kingdom is in need.
