Dirge

Dirge (he/any) is a character played by Jules (they/them) in The Battle of Birghtgleam Peak, a Tiresian Archives Fiction One-shot. He is a half-orc college of valor bard with the pirate background.

Description

Dirge is roughly 7 ft. tall with green skin, yellow-green eyes, a wide-set jawline fit to accommodate prominent fangs, and a bald head which is usually covered by one of his many seafaring-themed hats. Aside from that, his attire is that of a traditional bard - puffy sleeves, breeches, crisp boots, lots of colors and a flowing cape, all paid for and provided by the king. At Dirge's insistence, the colors are neutral enough that he can appear however charming or threatening necessary at the drop of a tricorn hat. The fur fastener of his cloak is lined with fangs from different creatures. It's the only visible article from Dirge's pirating days visible on his person. Well, that and the bloody belaying pin.   A classic chameleon, Dirge is whatever he needs to be when he needs to be it. This talent is often exploited by others from his pirate crew to the king. Dirge has been the cantor, the healer, the partier, the leader, the follower, the diplomat, the muscle, the thief, the assassin, the entertainment, the lookout, the bait, the trap, the shield, and the sword. This continues to this day. And as someone who has spent their entire life being whatever other people needed them to be, anyone who thinks it's difficult to figure out who Dirge is deep down has nothing on how difficult it is for Dirge himself.

Backstory

Dirge was a hot commodity among pirates, with no shortage of work on the high seas. He could talk down an entire enemy ship or clear 30 foes with one strum of his lute. Likewise, he could inspire his comrades better than even their own captains, and any hostile who got close enough to do the half-orc harm instantly came to regret it. Eventually, Dirge grew disinterested in continuing that life and decided to retire. Immediately after stepping onto dry land, Dirge was arrested for his many crimes. He was brought before the monarchs themselves, who gave him a choice. Spend what was left of his life in prison doing hard labor or continue the work he'd been doing as a pirate in service of the crown. The half-orc took his out and became an invaluable hand of the king and queen, shaking down flaky business owners, hunting down insurgents, and entertaining visiting dignitaries.
