Daisy
Daisy (she/her) is a character played by Karen (she/her) in the fiction one-shot The Curious Collector of Redwillow Forest. She is a fire genasi circle of wildfire druid with the inheritor background.
Description
If you didn't know better, Daisy might look like a human or a half elf. She has tan skin, the kind of bronze that you can't tell if it's naturally tan or she spends a lot of time in the sun. She has straight black hair in a kind of choppy bob, except when you look closer, if the light is good, you'd realize it's not black but charcoal colored. There are a few things that give her away as a fire genasi if you know what to look for - she's hot to the touch, like she has a high fever all the time, there's often a faint smell of wood smoke, and if she moves quickly sometimes you see scatterings of ash in her wake. The most striking thing about Daisy, though, is her tattoos. They cover both arms in full sleeves, disappearing under her clothes, leaving an open question of how much of her body is covered. They are thick, swirling black lines that seem like a stylized depiction of waves, or maybe wind, or flames, or vines, or clouds, it's hard to say. Part of the reason it's hard to pin down is because if you watch for a while, you realize the tattoos very slowly shift and the patterns are constantly changing. These tattoos are not related to her genasi heritage, but the Wildfire Spirit she's bonded with. They're not even true tattoos - the designs appeared on her body spontaneously when she bonded with her Spirit. Normally they are dark charcoal or black colored, but when she casts druidic magic, especially fire related magic, the tattoos flare into orange and yellow like when you blow on the coals of a fire. Daisy is bubbly and friendly and tends to default to kindness - it's easy to see why she gets along well with the party. She tends to be quite forgiving of people's flaws. On the other hand, that -1 in Charisma shows itself in her habit of bluntness or oversharing or inability to see why people wouldn't be as extroverted and gregarious as she is, resulting in her bowling over people's boundaries without realizing it. She's lovely, but she can sometimes be a bit much, too. She's also a terrible liar. Like, just so bad. Oh, and she likes fire, uh, a little too much. She would never hurt people with it (who didn't deserve it) or let it get out of control (that's what the Control Flames cantrip is for) but it's a bit of a fixation. She also has a deep philosophical connection to fire, because of its duality as something that destroys but is also necessary for life. She sees that duality in everything - nothing is just one thing, everything contains the possibility to be more if you shift your perspective.Backstory
Daisy grew up in a small rural village, taking care of animals and plants and learning basic druidic magic from her mother and the elders in her village. When she was a teenager, her grandmother passed away, which would have been a sad but normal life event, except that her grandmother was also a druid, and had been bonded to a Wildfire Spirit since she was a child. When he grandmother passed, the Spirit was suddenly released, and in a combination of grief and inability to control its fire magic on its own, the Spirit turned into a massive conflagration. Within minutes half the buildings in the village were ablaze. Daisy ran into one of the burning structures to open the pens so the farm animals could escape. Despite the intense heat and smoke, she realized that there was a figure in the flames, a horse like the ones she'd just set free. Without really knowing what she was doing, Daisy reached out to the horse, and it saw her and came towards her. As it did, the fires seemed to be pulled back, like they were being sucked back into the fiery horse. By the time it reached her, the building was only smoldering, the disaster gone as quickly as it started. The horse pushed its nose into her hand, and swirling designs snaked up her arm, glowing like embers, but then fading to black. Unfortunately, all of this was difficult to explain to the villagers who had lost their homes and the people who had been hurt. Daisy was blamed. Since the appearance of her Wildfire abilities coincided with the town fire, it was assumed that she started it, and despite her family's protests, their angry neighbors wanted Daisy to leave. Not wanting to make more trouble for the already hurt village, Daisy left. She named her Wildfire Spirit Aster (a type of daisy), and despite having to leave her village, she now considers meeting Aster to have been a blessing, because she can't imagine her life without her best fire horse friend.Trivia
- Daisy is a Horse Girl(TM), it's just her horse is made of fire.
- Daisy is a fire genasi born to half-elves, because of proximity to her grandmother's wildifre spirit (which no one in the family knew about as her grandmother kept it a secret).
