Hogswallow
Hogswallow is a small village in southern Zargon. It is surrounded by numerous farms, from manors to subsistence farms.
Demographics
Mostly Kaian, with the Lord Mayor and their administration all Zaru.
Government
Government is run via an appointed mayor and their administration. This includes holding court to hear grievances and make rulings on defense, harvest festivals, and other goings-on.
Defences
The village is guarded by a platoon of Queen Selene's army. No Iron Guardsmen or knights, just simple footmen and archers.
Industry & Trade
The village relies on trade in agriculture, especially trading raw for finished goods.
Infrastructure
The town proper is home to a forge, a watermill for the grinding of flour, and the courthouse next to the mayor's house. The Royal Road cuts through it toward Crossroads and Bel-Zargon in the north.
Assets
Hogswallow is responsible for maintaining a number of farms which keep the southern lands fed.
Guilds and Factions
The mayor and their administrators share power with the Kaian-led town council. This is an experimental arrangement introduced by order of Queen Selene, determined to grant the Kaians equal rights.
History
Hogswallow was founded in 1288 as a farming community for Kaians to settle apart from the Zaru. As the Zaru tried to increase their influence, the Kaians fought back in a peasant uprising. This uprising was finally put down in 1293 at the Battle of Travellers Forest. Since then, Hogswallow remains majority-Kaian, but the populace has no more will to rebel. At least, they appear that way. Queen Selene's reforms have improved relations between the Zaru and the Kaian peoples, though some among the Zaru nobility resent Hogswallow's prosperity. Some of Thraxus's troops raided Hogswallow during the Zargonese Civil War.
Architecture
Many of the home are simple wattle and daub constructions. The mayor's house is made of timber and brick, as are the forge and the courthouse.
Geography
The land is mainly flat, watered by the wells and streams branching from the River Reed. There are some spots of forest, but most the land is cultivated for farming.
