Neve's shoes

These golden shoes were crafted by Clíodhna as a wedding gift for Niamh, who wore them with her wedding dress.

I tugged the ribbon free and opened the box to reveal beautiful, classic closed-toe heels of golden fabric.

"They're beautiful, Aunt Chloe." I picked one up and traced my finger along the embroidery of apple blossoms in a pale pink thread with little sparkling pink crystals at their centers.

"Are those actual gold?" Amber peered over my shoulder.

"Do you ever craft shoes out of anything practical?" she asked Aunt Chloe.

I turned the shoe over. The sole and heel did appear to be solid gold, but it wasn't heavy, and the sole flexed gently when I bent it.

"Well, it would have been tricky to enchant them the way I wanted with just gold thread and tiny crystals," said Miss Chloe airily.

Sure enough, once I looked harder with my Sight, I could see the drifting patterns of the spell floating around them.

Audrey snagged the other shoe to examine it. "Enchanted against blisters and sore feet ... Handy for dancing," she added to Liadan who was on her lap with one paw on the shoe. "As well as speed, agility ... and protection against death and dismemberment?" Audrey looked at Aunt Chloe with wide eyes. "What kind of wedding do you think this is going to be? Moriath and Bronach are both gone. Are we expecting a fomóire attack?"
