Master Brynjar

Master Brynjar was a dwarven runecrafter. He taught Estrid and inked Kylian's rune tattoos. He disapeared under suspicious circumstances, most likely killed by Moriath.

Estrid nodded, her red braids bouncing. “I thought I recognized Master Brynjar’s work.”

“Who?” I stared at the inked lines with new interest.

“The runecrafter I apprenticed under.” Estrid didn’t look up from my rune. “There’s something about this ingwaz. The ink looks the same but the underlying spell has . . .”

“What?”

Estrid shook her head. “I'm not sure. It’s safe, though. Master Brynjar would have made sure of it, so I wouldn’t worry. But I was surprised to see that he did Kylian’s entire sleeve of runes, even the most recent ones.”

“Kylian got his runes from a dwarf? Have you met him before?”

“Of course he did.” Estrid released my arm. “I told you, we’re the ones who discovered rune magic. But I didn’t meet Kylian before yesterday. Master Brynjar must have done them in secret.”

Estrid shook her head. “Master Brynjar used to take mysterious trips. He’d never bring me along, and he would never talk about it afterwards. Ten years ago, he left and never returned. From your Huntsman's tattoos, I would guess that’s when he got the most recent ink done on his arm. We never heard from him again.”
