Magical Roses

A rose from the Rose Gate will continue to live once it's picked and opens and closes with the days and nights of Faerie. Though you need to keep a close eye on it, if in the human world! Faerie time moves quickly!

Because the roses are from an enchanted gate, they retain some of the magic of Faerie in them. In case you ever needed a little magical boost.

From The Books:

“The roses from the gate will continue to open and close with the sunlight, even when separated from it. This should make it easier for you to judge the time of day before you come.”

***

Leith laughed. “Exactly. The roses carry magic all their own after centuries of edging the gate. And I used a bit more of Kilinaire’s magic to ensure this one won’t wilt, not as long as the castle remains.”

***

“Who knows?” Amber pulled a dark red rose out of her purse and tossed it in a jar of makeup brushes on her vanity. Odd.
***

I glanced at the rose on the vanity. “Wasn’t that flower open before?”

Amber tossed a gray leather bootie at me and looked at the rose. “Aw, crap, we’re going to be late. Try this on.”

“Miss Chloe, you’ve been holding out on us,” complained Amber. “Do you know how hard it is to tell time with an enchanted rose?” She turned to me. “Faerie time is always faster than human time, but sometimes it’s twice as fast and sometimes it’s twenty times as fast. It’s super annoying. I have to set up my phone to take videos of it at night so I don’t lose track of the days.”

Inspiration

The roses are inspired by Hanna's own garden roses, as pictured in the photo.
