Geanan

Geanan is the head gardener at Kilinaire Castle.

Introduction to Geanan in the books

“Do. Not. Move,” Tait said very, very quietly.

“What?”

He winced at my loud question and slowly pointed out into the kitchen garden where a giant cougar stalked toward the orchard. I gripped the tree trunk tightly.

Hold still. Don’t freak out.

How had it gotten through the Rose Gate? Was it some cat thing, like with Rani? It just went where it wanted to? For all my bravado when talking to Lily, I’d always been terrified of cougars. I mean, a bear will usually run away, but a cougar? They might decide to pounce on you for fun.

“He must have found out about the goldfish,” whispered Tait. “I swear, I only ate a couple this time. I didn’t think he’d notice!”

“Wait, what?!” I exclaimed, startled out of my panic. “That’s not a real cougar?”

“His teeth are real enough.” Tait shushed me. “Not that Geanan would actually eat me, but he might make me help fertilize the hedges again, and that’s even worse.”

I bit my lip to keep from laughing at my little friend’s distress.

***

Pastures and copses of trees surrounded the castle grounds on all sides, and faeries, ranging from small to tiny, scurried about putting the grounds to rights. A tall brown faerie who reminded me of an oak tree was ordering around packs of little flying faeries in the rose garden. He must be Geanan. Leaves flew as the hedges were trimmed into strict order.
