Shopping in a dragon horde Report in Tir Na Macalla | World Anvil

Shopping in a dragon horde

General Summary

When you are only given a few minutes to find your items before the magic portal closes, you just grab everything you can, and hope it's what you needed.   We all found our most needed items and a few extra items. We found quite the stash of potion bottles. Our new friends, Garlug, Marcus, and Hidalgo, all found a wide assortment of odd items which is all listed out at the bottom of this story, then we all dashed through the portal into the middle of town just outside the colliseum.   We briefly thought about trying to unite the king's body, soul and spirit, right then and there, but we were all more than a little tired after escaping, and a few of us weren't in the best of health after outrunning a giant lizard.   We returned to the library we'd spent the night at before, The World's Biggest Library , only to find Brother Ox preparing to leave, citing ill winds.   "Brother Ox," Cap said pulling out the scroll he found in the dragon's horde. "Do you have any idea what this is? I cannot read it."   Brother Ox took the scroll and glanced over it, his eyes widened as he started to read the scroll more thoroughly, "It's an artifact of the Lady of the Forest. Be careful with it, it will replace part of your soul with a wild spirit."   "What does that mean?" Cap asked.   "Who is the Lady of the Forest?" Brother Ox replied.   "After her death, part of her became the fae," I answered.   "Just so," Brother Ox inclined his head towards me, "So might you become if you sleep near this."   I saw Cap staring at the scroll as if it held the key to something he needed, "Cap, remember you already have a calling. It might not do well with the friend in your shield."   "Captain," Marcus said, "Would you be interested in a trade? I might want to use that scroll." They discuss back and forth, ending with Marcus getting the scroll and Cap ending with the hammer of storms and the circlet of blasting.   "Just in case," Marcus said laying the scroll on the other side of the room, "I'll lay it over there until I've thought more on what I want to do." But, the next morning when we woke up, he was definitely sleeping much closer to the scroll than he was when we went to sleep.   "Guys," Lili said glancing out the window, "It looks like everyone is going to the coliseum, and they're dressed in their best clothes."

The best laid plans

"What's our plan?" I asked.   "I can look ahead," Lili said, give me a moment, she focused and stared at the distance, "I see a crowd in the stands. The princess has amazing clothes on. On her arm is a small bird she's talking with. Maybe she's gathering witnesses, but it seems like she is waiting for something. The groundling area is front of her is empty." She staggered, "I don't think a frontal assault will work."   "Right, me and Wolfy will wait here for you to come back," Papa Legba said in King Vasilius' body.   "Papa Legba, that won't work," I pulled the cask out of my bag, "How 'bout a cup to help your courage?"   "Six cups now."   "I don't have unlimited supplies. Two cups, one before and one after."   "Four cups now."   "Two cups before and two cups after."     Two cups and a cigar before and two cups after."   "Done," I held out my hand, and he shook it. I poured him out two cups. "What's our plan?"   "To unite my father's body with its spirit and soul, they must all go to the correct places," he pulled a piece of chalk from a pouch on his belt and sketched out the coliseum. On the stage, he drew three symbols, a statue to the left, a sun design in the middle, and a small pool of water to the right. "The body," he gestured at Papa Legba, "must come before the Creator and bow. The soul before the sun rests, and the spirit within the pool resides. His name called forth three times. Then will his body, soul, and spirit be reunited. I will guard my father's body as Papa Legba bows before the Creator."   "I'll come with you, your sister's best chance to stop us is to destroy his body." Vasilis nodded.   "I'll run the lantern with his spirit to the sun," I volunteered. "It'll also be close by for Papa Legba's spirit to go back into once the King is reunited."   "I do be takin' the pearl to the pool," Cap volunteered. "Do there be an actor's way to get onto the stage or anything like that?"   Vasilis stared at the drawing he'd made of the coliseum lost in thought, then shook his head, "No, or nothing we could get to. The only entrance is within plain sight of all in the coliseum."   "Frontal assault it is," Lili said, "I've got an idea."

All the world's a stage

Romanoff somehow produced a trumpet, how that little guy did I'm not really sure, but he blew that trumpet for all he was worth and loudly proclaimed, "Attention everyone, my liege and good people stand as the future best minion, Romanoff, introduces you to the important people coming into the coliseum now. I give you the monarch of this land, King Agara and Prince Vasiius!"   The coliseum stood in silence as Prince Vasilis strode in.  "Traitorous sister, your time has come. I call you to account and will have your blood on my blade." We all marched in behind him.   "Brother, you have arrived," Vashti turned and addressed the crowd gesturing towards us, "As you can see my brother has dug up our beloved father, see how he lurches about in a mockery of life, on this the day of my coronation."   "Enough of this nonsense," Lili threw a blast of magic at Vashti, but she somehow dodged it. I followed up his blast with my own spell, but she shook that off as well.   "Bow to your king witch," Cap bellowed.   "My king? That beast and the decrepit thing you dug up, I think not."   Marcus ran forward with Brother Hidalgo at his heels. I threw a blast of fire and she screamed.   "You've scorched my clothes, how dare you?" She flicked her hands and Marcus collapsed in sleep, the scroll tucked into his belt flared and words flew across his skin. I ran past Marcus and dropped the lantern in front of the sun mural. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Cap drop the pearl into the water and Agara's body kneel in front of the statue.   "King Agara," I cried out. Agara's body trembled as if he had been struck.   "There be something trying to push the pearl out of the water," Cap said in amazement. "It's a hermit crab."   "Keep that pearl in the water!" Vasilis yelled back.   "Brother dear," Vashti said, "Beast of mine." She pointed and Vasilis started to revert to the wolf he had been before.   "No!" Cap cried out, dropping his shield to the ground, a wave of energy flew out hitting Vasilis halting the transformation.   Marcus crashed into Vashti knocking her back, "Father Hidalgo help Cap with the pearl!"   Father Hidalgo shoved the pearl back under water crushing the hermit crab trying to push it out.   "King Agara," Lili cried out as she threw a spell at the creature attacking her from the shadows.. Vasilis trembled as his body warred with itself, his eyes snapped into focus as he stared at Vashti and he charged over to her, his sword bit into her body and she cried out.   "For King Agara," he shouted, "our father whom you betrayed." The stadium echoed with a boom and King Agara stood up.   "Vashti, you have failed. Would that you had stayed true, but I take from you all that I have ever given you and cast you out." She stumbled back, and shrunk in size as his amassed power left her.   She turned in desperation to the crowd, "People would you follow me or the fool that left you to starve?" The crowd started to grumble and argue, "This doddering fool would undo all I have done for you. Would you give up the power I have given you? Follow me to the bright future I promised!" She pulled a pearl from her necklace and cast it at the ground vanishing in a flash of light.   "My people, if you wish to be healed of the change she has done to you, then come forward to me," his face hardened, "but if you do not wish to be restored, you may join her and be cast out." Slowly the stands emptied as the people came forward to be restored from the change.   King Agara turned to us as the crowds descended towards us. "I would speak with you, but I must attend to this first. Please wait." We bowed and stood back. "Prince Vasilis come," Vasilis came and kneeled before his father. Agara laid his hands on Vasilis' shoulders, "My son, be restored."   I felt the rush of power that went from Agara to Vasilis. The fur that had grown over Vasilis melted away, and his teeth returned to normal human teeth. Slowly the people in the stadium came forward and the scene repeated over and over. Slowly the stadium emptied as the people were healed and left. Some did not come forward to be healed, but slunk away to join Vashti.   "Thank you for all that you did. Restoring Vasilis to himself, finding all the parts of me and restoring me to myself," King Agara said when we were the only ones left. "I am not what I once was, but I do have a few things I can give you. Cap, I understand you are missing a ship?"   "Aye, the Pearl, she was a most amazing ship, but a pirate stole her from me."   "I believe you have a toy boat, correct?"   "Yes, I bought it on the Holy Isle from Ezra ( Some people just don't want to be found )."   "May I see it?" Cap handed the boat over and King Agara took it, turning it over, and trying all of the parts of it.   "Yes, this is good craftsmanship," Agara said. "Ezra always did make impressive items. However I think," and his voice trailed off as he focused. "Yes, there we go." He handed the ship back to Cap. "It will work properly now. I have attuned it to one of our crystal ships, which we give to you. It will be able to steer the ship remotely using this so you can send the ship away if you wish or return it. It will also lock the ship down to prevent anyone from stealing your ship."   Cap sputtered as he looked at his toy ship, his eyes grew to the size of saucers, "Thank you sir, this be just what I wanted."   "And the rest of you, how may I help you? You have done a great favor for the Cassiomani," King Agara said looking out over our group.
