Norbert's Feast of Follies

In the opulent kingdom of Galdoria, renowned for its lavish feasts and fertile lands, the buffoonish and tyrannical King Norbert ruled with both folly and an iron fist. His excessive banquets were the talk of the realm, showcasing dishes more fantastical with each passing season. However, his latest obsession was to host a feast that would be remembered for all time.
Enter the crafty Chef Marlowe, who promised King Norbert a dish unseen and untasted by any other—a meal so exquisite that only the most refined palates could appreciate its true brilliance. He claimed it was an "Invisible Delicacy," a meal made from the rarest ingredients from the mystical corners of the world. The catch? Only those of true discernment and high standing could appreciate its subtle, ethereal flavors.
King Norbert, eager to prove his sophistication and distract from his tyrannical misdeeds, declared a grand feast to unveil the Invisible Delicacy. The kingdom’s elite gathered, their curiosity piqued by such an extravagant claim. As the dish was "served," the court watched in silence, no one daring to admit they tasted nothing but air, lest they be deemed unworthy or unsophisticated.
The King himself, after a theatrical pause, declared the meal to be the pinnacle of culinary achievement, lauding its invisible ingredients and the explosion of flavors only he could seemingly detect. The courtiers quickly followed suit, praising the nonexistent dish, each outdoing the other in describing the elusive tastes and aromas.
However, a young scullery maid, known only for her honesty and not for her tact, burst out laughing during the feast. She boldly proclaimed that the plates were empty and the King was merely eating air. Her candid outburst rippled through the crowd, and soon, laughter replaced the feigned adoration.
Embarrassed and enraged, King Norbert attempted to silence her, but the truth had already crystallized like sugar on the tongue. His attempts to maintain his façade crumbled, exposing not just the scam of the feast but the folly of his leadership.
Chef Marlowe, actually an ancient trickster in disguise and ever the opportunist, slipped away amidst the chaos, leaving the kingdom to reflect on the taste of truth and the price of maintaining a delusion. The event, now known as "Norbert’s Feast of Follies," became a cautionary tale of vanity and pretense in the annals of Galdoria, a dish best served with a side of humility.
