The Kingdom

The Kingdom claims sovereignty over the entire continent, however this is slightly misleading. The Kingdom controls the capital region but has little influence over the outer lying regions, who mostly self govern. However due to the military might of the kingdom there is little talk of secession. There are stories of one city that tried to form their own independent nation, but no one knows the name of it anymore, and only a barren wasteland remains where it once stood.   The kingdom is split into 3 major regions. The reaches, the capital region, and the capital itself. The reaches are furthest from the capital, the western reach is all the lands west of the swanny river. The northern reach is a vast desert that none from the Kingdom have ever crossed, it is home to numerous nomadic tribes of tabaxi. The Eastern reach is the most populous, it is a tropical archipelago of many islands. Many halflings call the eastern reach home, and seafood from the eastern reach is said to be the best in the world.   The capital region is a fertile, temperate land known for its agriculture. The capital region is home to the majority of the citizens of the Kingdom, and is considered to be the only civilised land outside the capital. The capital  is located on the southern coast of the continent. It is a huge city, fuelled by the industry of the outer regions. The capital  is the home of the king, and even the poorest citizen of the capital is many times richer than an average citizen in the reaches.

Demography and Population

The vast majority of the Kingdom's citizens are peasents who work the fields, however there are numerous towns and villages dotted throughout the capital region, which are population centres. The people that live in the towns are on average much better off than those who work the fields, but they do not have anything compared to the citizens of the capital.   The racial make up of the Kingdom is highly varied, with humans and goblins being the most numerous people. The royal family is tiefling, a race known for their powerful magical abilities. Many noble families are also tiefling, however there are a few well established dwarven merchant families that are essentially nobility. Races such as gnomes and orcs are exceptionally rare in the capital region, but it is said there are huge gnomish cities buried underground in the hills of the western reach.   Allthough the citizens of the capital live a life of relative luxury, and are very grateful to the royal family for that. Most of the population has never even seen a royal, least of know who the king is.

Military

The Kingdom has a very large and well equipped military, this serves the dual purpose of keeping the territories in line and also acting as protection from extra planar incursions or tyrants that would seek to take the capital. The army is seldom mobilised however, as it is often seen as more prudent to send the adventurer's guild first, many members of the guild are peasants so they make an excellent vanguard. Most of the army is made up of nobility, and many of the officers have served for 100s of years. This means they are a very experienced and highly competent force. In times of crisis the army can inflate in size 10 times over, as the peasantry are drafted into the ranks to serve, forcefully or otherwise.

Currency
The official currency of the Kingdom is the royal, which are split up into copper, silver, gold, electrum and platinum coins. Coins are produced by the royal mint in the capital city. Each one has a crown and the words, 'Vivat coronam' embossed on it.
Judicial Body
The Royal guard serve as the judge, jury, and executioner for the Kingdom. They have barracks in every major settlement in the capital region, and are quick to mobilise if something threatens the the Kingdom. One would be foolish to rely on them to help in the case of a robbery or even murder unless you are of high social standing or have enough to coin to purchase their services.
