The Dark Lord Marcus Galahund

Marcus was born a human in the capital region. He was magically gifted and won a scholarship to study wizardry in the royal university, where he excelled. He became disenchanted with the Kingdom after graduation, as he found he was unable to gain a position in the royal guard as a battle mage. He left for the eastern reach, where he began his studies on necromancy with tomes he had stolen from the university library. He remained there for decades, until at 78 years old he discovered the secret to becoming a lich.
After completing the ritual and turning undead he continued his studies while sailing the eastern reach in search of a dungeon. After finding a suitable dungeon he took it over and spent the next hundred years growing his magical powers and building an undead army. Now he is ready to seek revenge on the Kingdom, and the people who scorned him. Elves have long lifespans but if he doesn't attack now he may not have a chance at revenge against the older scholars at the royal university.
The adventurer's guild has rated his overall threat to be low, but he is nonetheless causing quite a stir in the capital. Many adventurers who see this as a chance for glory have travelled to the western reach to battle the hordes. More still see the chance for a huge payday so have headed to the capital to find work as a noble's bodyguard until the situation unfolds.
