Left orphaned on a doorstep in the dock district within Shadowhold, Markus began his life already at a large disadvantage. That didn't stop him from picking up a sword and emulating his adopted father who was a Knight of the Black Rose. Seeing his natural talent with a blade, his Father recommended that he begin training to become a knight himself and he would adopt him and make him a Montcroix, no longer a bastard son.
At the age of 14 he left Shadowhold to travel to Darkshore and train under General Caelum Stormrider. He quickly learned how to handle himself and was able to best even veteran knights by the age of 16. Caelum called for a ceremony and officially knighted Markus at the age of 17, and before his 18th birthday he had risen to the rank of Captain within the Knights of the Black Rose.
He has spent years in the service of the Queen's Army and has made quite a name and reputation for himself. Now at the age of 35, he has been nominated to become the next General in the Royal Army. The ceremony is scheduled to take place later this year where he will be officially made the youngest General in the history of Stoze.

Markus had a rough upbringing and didn't receive the best tutors or the finest books. He did however have access to the best swordsmen within Shadowhold and he watched them train day after day, absorbing all the information he was seeing. As soon as he was strong enough to lift and swing a sword he began practicing in secret. One day his adopted father, Ronan Montcroix, caught a glimpse of him and could see a passion that he had nearly lost. He began training with Ronan until he reached a point where he had surpassed his abilities.
At this point he traveled to Darkshore and studied under General Caelum Stormrider where he also had access to formal books on swordfighting, battle tactics and history.

He also wants to bring honor to the Montcroix house and to his adopted father Ronan for allowing him to carry the name.
