Personal history
Lierin Meliamne was born to Veradin and Eise Meliamne in a farming village on the outskirts of Dusael’s capital city, Veron. She would often spend her days assisting with agricultural work, specifically tending to the farms and taking care of the livestock. In the evenings, she would regularly spar with her mother, a former soldier of the Dusael Military. She instructed Lierin in the art of defensive combat, often using a wooden sword and makeshift shield to educate her daughter on the basics of military combat styles. As Lierin’s developed her skill, Eise would teach her more complex techniques, eventually instructing her in the way of the spear, two-handed sword, and hammer.
When she was fourteen, Lierin watched as several nobles from House Dusael came to the family’s farm and spoke with Eise. Seeming uncharacteristically solemn, Eise gave Lierin a bracelet made of green gemstones before leaving with the group. Several weeks passed until Lierin received news from her father that her mother passed away under unknown circumstances. Now full of grief, Lierin threw herself into her combat practice, vowing to join the military so that she may stop evil from taking another life.
Veradin – now suspicious of the Dusael government – reached out to several connections and secured Lierin a place in the Military Academy of Camae. Lierin was initially reluctant to attend the Academy, but with her father in a state of grief and her mother gone, she felt left with no other options. On her fifteen birthday, Lierin left to the Holy Nation of Camae where she began extensive training as a Paladin.
Lierin had a difficult time at the Academy, often struggling with channeling the magic used by Paladins. By the time she was seventeen, she was at the bottom of her class and was on the verge of dropping out. As luck would have it, a diplomatic exchange was taking place at this time and Caliana Dusael, the Empress of Dusael was meeting several students throughout the Academy and crossed paths with Lierin. After learning Lierin was a daughter of a Dusael soldier, the Empress asked for her to accompany the group from Dusael on a few low-risk joint operations in the Versnir Republic.
The Camae-Dusael Task Force in the Versnir Republic was formed to help capture criminals who escaped from Dusael and snuck their way into the Republic overseas. The presence of Camae’s neutral forces helped ease tensions between the Empire and the Republic, which allows the Task Force to operate relatively uninhibited. These operations gave the spotlight to Lierin, who had an uncanny ability to track down the targets through a clever mix of interrogation, investigation, and intuition. The Empress was exceptionally impressed with Lierin’s performance, and upon their return to the Academy, applauded the cadet’s skills.
Lierin was allowed to graduate the Academy, but was not placed into a traditional Paladin assignment. Given that she still lacked the skills expected of a Paladin, she was assigned to the Inquisition Office, where she worked alongside other Inquisitors to investigate international situations. Her first mission was to follow-up on an incident within the Dwarven city of Agrammon. A series of events led to one of the most esteemed Inquisitors, Titania, being killed in action. Lierin’s assignment was to met with the Agrammon leaders and determine who killed Titania and bring them to justice.
