Government

The Duke/Duchess of Alanna's Grace is always the noble chosen by the Emperor/Empress to oversee all affairs of the city. The ruling noble family will typically assign other noble families to manage more specific asepects of the city such as trade, defense, or civil planning.

Defences

A large, stone wall surrounds the western half of the city, where a dam separates the upper residential level of the city from the lower industrial level.

Industry & Trade

Fishing is the primary industry in Alanna's Grace. Following the invention of Alannian Frozen Cloth by Walsworth Fidgethands, fishermen in the city were able to store their hauls for extended periods of time, allowing it to be held in local warehouses or traded long distances. This creation caused the fishing industry in Alanna's Grace to rapidly expand, and Frozen Cloth technology remains a closely guarded trade secret by the Fidgethands family.

Infrastructure

Alanna's Grace features a vast shipyard along the coast where numerous fishing vessels -- small and large -- dock daily. Several warehouses are stationed along the coast and are packed with fish, stored safely using Alannian Frozen Cloth for merchants to purchase in bulk to sell elsewhere, usually in the landlocked settlements to the northwest.

History

Alanna's Grace was founded by Empress Alanna Dusael midway into her reign. She sought to expand trade opportunities by personally assisting in funding the development of a town north of the capital. As the foundation of the town was built and a government was put into place, the leadership surprised the Empress by naming the town Alanna's Grace. Despite her protests, the leadership did not budge on the name. For many years, the town remained prosperous, but humble. It was when Walsworth Fidgethands, a talented alchemist and inventor, introduced his Frozen Cloth technology to the fishermen's guild that the city saw a rapid growth in development. By allowing fish to be transported long distances or held in warehouses for extended periods of time, the capacity for trade greatly expanded. From there, Alanna's Grace saw a rapid expansion, nearly tripling in size across the decade.   The rapid expansion led to many commoners and lesser nobles exponentially growing their income, thereby creating numerous competing businesses in the area. For nearly a century, employees of various businesses engaged in sabotage, espionage, and direct combat in an effort to grow their holdings. It was by the intervention of the Fishermen's Guild that the hostilities diminished, though secret underground wars continue to this day.

Tourism

The Empress' Estate is a common tourist attraction in the city. Once the second home of Alanna Dusael, it is now considered a historic site that is often open to the public. Occasionally, the ruling Emperor/Empress will stay at the home, which puts it in a state of lockdown until their departure.   The Water Wall is the large dam that separates the upper residential area from the lower industrial area of the city. Many visitors look in awe upon this massive creation built in 1080.
