The Foundation of Thrymmatízo

Scope (write a sentence on each):

What is your motivation for building this world?

I want to build a world that explores causality and paradoxes within a D&D context that involves modern and future material.

What are you hoping to get out of it?

I'm seeking to present my players a new world to explore in which they are able to travel the multiverse, planes and planetary systems.

What is the Hook or Unique Selling Point of your world? What makes it unique or different?

Displaced people have been reported for multiple years. The Bermuda Triangle, disappearances in National Parks, lost Soldiers of War and anomalies all transpire due to instabilities within the planar cosmology and multiverses. THRYMMATÍZO is where these lost souls arrive, the natives of the world have referred to this as the Shattering and seek to close all connecting gates. Every decision made by the players can alter the fabric of the multiverse resulting in alternative societal paths, cultural shifts and historical events being written.

Theme

What’s the Genre of your World?

My world is Fantasy/Science Fiction! Magic, Science, Mysticism and Religion all create a melded technology which governs the Planes of Existence. Time Bandits meets Buckaroo Banzai while adventuring with Conan the Barbarian.

How does the world feel (player experience)?

The world feels adventurous and alien allowing the player to experience the familiar traditional settings of Modern (Secret World/Cosmic Horror) and Fantasy (D&D/Heroic Fantasy). This world will act as a base of operations and campaign setting but is a part of a much larger multiverse.

What is the tone of your world?

World is Dark with the players seeking to bring it to a neutral balance - think The Adversary Cycle by F. Paul Wilson with elements of the Chronicles of Cheysuli by Jennifer Roberson.

What is the character agency level like?

The campaign will be dictated by the characters actions during their time on and off world. While this world is stable due to the Shattering the inhabitants may have arrived due to the actions of the characters. The primary antagonists of the world, being Shattered themselves lead to the Dark feel of the story and every decision that is made (Ill or Faithful) will lead to the Causality of the multiverse.

What are the recurring themes which reinforce the genre, tone and feel of your world? (Give three examples)

  1. Portals, Doorways, and rips in Reality that can lead the adventures into or out of danger
  2. Strange Technology from Stone Age – Far Future which is randomly populating the world
  3. Belonging, Friendship and Family are themes explored for the characters building their places together and, in the world, while facing through personal courage the dark themes of loss, suffering and darkness which seems to be taking over within and without.

Meta:

  • Military: the technology level between the varies countries has led to uncomfortable alliances within the human, Orcs and Dwarven populaces. Monastic Orders, Paladins and Knights are the most common forces. The Elves, Sirena and Fey utilize high magics and advanced weaponry noted by some new arrivals to be beamed based.
  • Technology: as new arrivals bring advances to technology when they arrive many species have relied on this to inspire their technological advancements. The Sirena and Dwarves have progressive advanced technologies which they continue to increase without the aid of external arrivals. Rumors of Dwarven technological advances insist it is mainly due to their binding ties with gnomes who were nearly eradicated by the Lacertilian tribes.
  • Gender Relations: many races have had limited issues with females being in-charge or outright ruling; the elves, dwarves, Fey and orcs. However, some human cultures and the Lacertilian tribes have expressed deep disagreements and halted trade, alliances and religious events due to females ruling or being in professions that should only be male orientated. The Sirena have the exact opposite opinion feeling men are nothing more then breeders and fighters for military engagements.
  • Religious Influence: The Gods have mostly been silent since the great Adversarial War. Many of THRYMMATÍZO's original Gods faded after so many of their followers were destroyed. Of the Gods who remain they have their chosen consisting of Clerics & Paladins, but the overall people are mostly on their own. This has led to Cultists seeking dark entities for power, Monastic Orders and Druidic Circles finding inner and natural powers, and New Gods arriving through the travelers who become trapped within the Shattered.
  • Rule of Law: Each Kingdom, Country, Empire and State has its own system of government and law. This has led to the birth of Ambassadors and Viziers being utilized as a means to keep all parties connected and meet the retirements for each rules of engagements. The system works for the most part, unless a stronger nation utilizes their alliances and strength to claim victory over another. As the Lacertilian Tribes demonstrated with shocking effect when they wiped 95% of the Gnomes from the world.

Drama:

1. 15 years ago, the Moroi began to leave their traditional lands bringing their pestilence and taint to the lands of man. While this was foretold by The Order of the Dragon few recall the ancient stories in this current day.   2. 6 years have passed since The Anlaşılan District of Qayitdi was occupied by the Orcish Conclave, The Crooked Shield. The Crooked Shield have held this vast agricultural area insisting that "genocide is an option" if the crops are not purchased by the Qayitdi merchants. This is the second season such threats have been made and the people fear for those captured citizens.   3. The Hamlet Belbridge appeared a year ago on the Island of the Magi within the Naprasnic River. Although this is not an unusual occurrence and the introduction of Belbridge Ale has raised the moral of the local communities. The Cult of Gomez the Angelic Dragon has become a problem with local religious leaders.   4. The Kingdom of Wàngjìle has won another victory in Fallen Cove. Prince Li Fu Sien proved his worth to his Ancestor Col Li Fu Sien by defeated the galleon of slavers and retrieving his missing naval sailors. Brinna Roise, the Sirena Ambassador to Wàngjìle hailed the Prince as an example of what the land of man can accomplish. Rumors the Prince was added by the Sirena Merfolk have continued since the Prince is so enraptured with Brinna.   5. Light shown from Opacus Crater into the sky during the new moon near the Gate of the Fallen Gods. Historian Gregory Cromwell of Tikili Village believes this is a sign that the gate opened which he states could herald another Crescent Airship. Religious leaders noted it was the Fallen God communing with his forgotten followers and that Cromwell is mad.
