Three Peaks

The wooded valley of Domhain, that covers most of the Formens Trail is situated upon the ruins of a once magically infused stronghold.This long forgotten region held an alliance between the great Dwarfs, Humans and Elve Lords of old, who guarded the world from the evils which spawned from the north. Atop the three mountain peaks a great magical undertaking was performed to provide a shield for all that dwelled to within. Using the knowledge of the elves, the craftsmanship of the dwarfs and Wizardry of the Humans a magical barrier was erected that kept the dark spawn at bay. Over time the creatures of the dark started to seek alternative routes to the south, resulting in many skirmishes within the underdark and subterranean levels. Adventurely an army of mages were sent north to find and contain the source of these dark creatures. After many years of battle they were successful in their task, forming the Thay empire to stand vigil over the doorway to the Nine Hells at the northern peak of the world. Over time the kingdom’s to the south forgot the threat Thayan mages kept at bay and while the Thayan people struggled in their harsh environments the other Kingdoms thrived. The passage of time widened the cultural difference between the Kingdoms until the alliance was nothing but a note in a history book. Eventually the isolation and wealth discrepancy led to much conflict between the peoples, particularly over the Thayan use of slaves and slavers.The Thayan scholars eventually discovered a way that the technology of old that once provided an impenetrable shield against the Dark spawn could be warped and corrupted to create a new doorway to the Hellish realms they continue to keep closed. Deeming the other Kingdoms unworthy to sit on such a potentially dangerous tool the Thayan armies marched south to reclaim the Shield of three peaks and thus the Thay wars began. A Lich who was once a Thay Red mage in the first campaign to contain the darkness, gone insane over the millenium staring into the doorway of the Nine Hells now seeks to pervert the ancient technology to bring a new hellish age to the realm.This nameless Lich wishes to bring to pass the greatest fear of the Thay and rule over the chaos it would bring. The Lich has enlisted the service of a Vampire lord, tasked with gathering a host of sacrifices to be used in blood magic ritual. One of the biggest achievements of the Lich is convincing a band of Azer to help rebuild the great technology of old and using a Horned Devil to watch over the fire creatures and ensure they stay true to the course.
