Nature's Bounty Festival

The Nature’s Bounty Festival is a celebration that occurs around the end of Spring. It originated in the Isles of Tongues as a way to celebrate and remember the value in naturally grown, mundane animals and crops and make use of old recipes from a time before the mass production of magically created life-forms for the purpose of food production. Since its creation two centuries ago it has spread out through much of the rest of the world, though the exact date varies by land and climate.   The festival is held by each community. Various families will come together to pull their resources and set up a booth at an area dedicated to the festival. At their stall they will have large amounts of whatever natural dishes they have decided to bring. The dishes must be made using only natural, non-magically created or enhanced ingredients. Typically home-grown vegetables and fruit or wild game hunted, though some still raise normal animals for slaughter just for this occasion. Families at each booth may charge for their food per customer, making it a good way to provide some extra income off their skill at cooking such meals.   The celebration begins at mid-day and ends at midnight, at which time the local leaders will act as judges to determine who prepared the best meal using the bounty of the land. A mage is usually present so as to ensure to magical shenanigans were had in the preparing of the meals, though when one is not available the honor system must be relied on. The three best meals will earn a gold, silver, and bronze ribbon that they may choose to decorate their homes in whatever way they see fit.   Of course naturally grown foods are nowhere near as packed with flavor as food produced through biogenesis, but many people still insist that the cuisine available at the Nature’s Bounty Festival is superior all the same. Usually with vague explanations about “earthiness” or “you can really taste the hard work”.
