Genetic Reconstruction

Biogenesis, as a field, has exploded in the past century. More so than any other form of magic. As our understanding of genetics and the underpinnings of how life functions increases so too does our ability to manipulate it.   Most recently is a new procedure called genetic reconstruction. This is a process that allows a biogenesist to manipulate the genetic coding within a person’s reproductive organs so that the sperm they produce will carry only the genetic traits they want them to carry. A similar process is done on the woman’s body so that when the two copulate they are able to create an ideal child with the exact looks and condition the parents desire.   Unfortunately this procedure comes frighteningly close to using biogenesis to create new people, a practice that has been illegal for the better part of three hundred years ever since the bans on engineering intelligent species were enforced. For now it falls into a gray area as the child is not fully a product of biogenesis but is rather the result of two modified human parents. Even so it has created a lot of controversy around the world and many countries are debating about the legality of it. As of now it has already been banned in parts of the Eastern Continent who have always been more harsh on biogenesis than other parts of the world. Where Aztlan or Khem-Ra will fall on the matter is as of yet unknown though both seem to be in favor of the ability to create more ideal offspring for the rich who can afford the procedure.   For now the removal of genetic defects is an almost universally approved use of the new spell while choosing the sex and appearance of the child is only acceptable in a minority of countries. Biogenesists believe they can do much more with this spell than what they have shown so far and may even be able to make the physical transformations in adult humans by biogenesis transmissible to the next generation, which in turn would allow for a massive deviation in what has historically been considered baseline human. So far only fringe groups in Aztlan seem willing to try this more extreme variation of the magic out, though nothing has been explicitly ruled out as of yet.
