Witchwood Henge

The Witchwood Henge is an impressively large standing stone circle located in the western plains of the Ward of Lomar in the Kingdom of Cobal. It is constructed in a near perfect ellipse that measures 252' at its major axis and 84' at its minor axis, meaning it is exactly 3 times as long as it is wide. The structure is defined by the seven massive stone blocks still standing along the outer edge of the henge. These standing stones average 54' in height and are estimated to weigh at least 90 tons each. The tallest stone stands 58' above the ground and the shortest is 44' above the ground.

Beside the seven standing stones are the remains of five additional stones that have broken (or been broken) and no longer stand in their original position. There is also a very large Witchwood tree that is growing in what appears to be the exact location of where an eighth standing stone should be found but no stone, rubble or evidence of a hole or depression in the ground can be found. In fact, this particular witchwood tree is the tallest specimen of the species known in the entire world, standing more than 130' tall.

Design

Built in an ellipse that measures 252' on the major axis and 84' on the minor axis. There are seven massive standing stones on the structure's perimeter and evidence of five others that are no longer standing or whole. There is a measurable and obvious depression in the exact center of the ellipse, but no stone is found nearer to this depression than 26', standing or otherwise.

Just a few paces away from the western vertex (the west end of the major axis) there is a massively tall and (presumably) ancient witchwood tree growing exactly where one would expect one of the defining perimeter stones to be. It is this tree (the tallest of its variety known to exist) that gives the site its name: Witchwood.

Special Properties

The Witchwood Henge is one of the holiest places in the Kingdom of Cobal for the adherents of the Druidic Faith and an awe-inspiring sight for anyone that sees it first hand. The stones of the henge are staggeringly huge, most standing more than 50' high and weighing nearly 100 tons each. Frequent gatherings and celebrations are held there by the faithful of the Ward and even when there is no formal or organized gathering at the henge, people often make short but fervent pilgrimages to the site from all over the region.
