Nyallwald Hag

The Hag of the Nyallwald was an immensely powerful and deadly Hag that terrorized the Colian people living near the Nyallwald Forest in Colo. Over the course of more than 30 years, this creature would enter a village, tuath or town near the wald and begin wailing a cry that struck paralyzing fear in every single person that heard it. While the entire population would cower and tremble, she would find a home where a young (always younger than six years) male child was being raised and take the child away with her. Parents were helpless to resist the Hag, and with each kidnapping, the terror increased and the word of the abductions spread.   These attacks seemed to start in the winter of 169 AF and continued until the creature was finally beheaded by Dylan Bensheel in 200 AF.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Always described as an immensely fat humanoid female of indeterminate age.  Many desciptions state she was as wide at the hips as she was tall, and when her body was finally burned in a huge pyre it took five strong men to move it.  Most frequently said to have long, greasy blonde or white hair and milk-colored eyes that shone with a pale light in the darkness.  On the night it was finally killed, the Hag was covered in the blood of its latest victim: the four-year-old son of Dylan Bensheel of Sheelhome.

Special abilities

Able to utter a cry or wail so terrifying that any person that heard it was struck still as stone instantly.  Known to be able to command animals of all sorts through the use of a strange gutteral language that has never been identified.  When confronted, the Hag would accurately give accounts of her confronter's past and laugh as she (often) accurately predicted the exact time and place of their death.  The smell of the Hag was so awful that it often caused those closest to her person to succumb to overpowering nausea and even vomiting.

Personal history

The first kidnapping attributed to the Nyallwald Hag was in the late winter of 169 AF.  The victim was a 3-year-old boy named Meehal that was taken from a lone farm some 7 miles from the Nyallwald's eastern edge.  This attack is directly attributed to the Hag because of the paralyzing wailing the preceeded the kidnapping.  All five of Meehal's siblings and his strong and healthy parents were renendered helpless by the sound.  After the terrible creature had taken the child, the family finally was able to move again as the sun began to rise in the east.  An alarm was raised and a search began, but the Hag and the child were gone.  When spring arrived, the family awoke one morning to find the moldy and decayed skull of a young child impaled on a stick at their farm's gate.  Too far decayed to be absolutely identified, all indications were that the skull was Meehal's.  Every three years after that attack, the Hag would strike again, usually taking one male child, but on several occassions when the home that was attacked had more than one young boy within, multiple boys would be taken.   In all, 108 young boys (all under the age of six years) were stolen from their homes.  All kidnappings were followed by the finding of skulls, rib cages, hands or even genitals that were terribly decayed but still showing plain evidence of having been eaten or chewed.  These attacks continued around the Nyallwald for 31 winters until, in the darkest night of the winter of 200 AF, three year old Wylis Bensheel was taken from the home of the Chief of the Bensheel Clan, Dylan Bensheel.
