Lord Durant Carrel
Durant Carrel is the sitting royal legate for the King of Aria to the court of the High Kingdom of Imesse. He is a distant cousin of the reigning King, Tessian Carrel, and the great-grandson of King Roche Carrel, making him the heir presumptive. Because Tessian has no declared heir, should anything happen to Tessian, Durant would inherit the throne as the closest living descendant of King Roche.
Durant is the only son of Perrin Carrel, the former Lord Chancellor for King Marcel II, and he inherited all his father's titles and estates upon his father's death in 230 AF. In the spring of 232 AF (his seventh year on the throne), King Tessian Carrel named Durant the royal legate to the court of the High Kingdom of Imesse. Many close to the King think that Durant was picked because Tessian dislikes Max III very much, but Durant is convinced that he was named legate because Tessian dislikes Durant enough to want him out of the Kingdom for most of the year.

Personal history
Durant and Tessian were actually quite close as children, with Durant's father Perrin constantly at court as the King's Chancellor. Both were of a similar age and both were active, energetic children with no siblings. However, as they grew into adulthood, Durant showed a far more developed capacity to be decisive and determined in his actions than Tessian. As Durant showed a tendency to know what he wanted and how best to achieve that goal, Tessian tended to look to others to tell him what was best and when it would be given to him.
Durant has seen great success in all his efforts prior to the death of his father in 230 AF. He was knighted by the Grand Master of the Order of the Swords of Heaven himself at a tournament in Malamor at the age of only 17 after winning a thrilling joust against the veteran warrior. Tessian's annointing as a knight was purely ceremonial, with no actual trial or accomplishment associated with it.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Durant is the oldest male descendant of King Roche Carrel, even though he is three generations removed from the throne. Should anything happen to King Tessian before he has a legitimate heir, Durant would have the strongest claim to the throne of Aria.

Motivation
Durant is an honorable man that is dedicated to seeing his King and the Kingdom of Aria succeed and prosper. He is not ambitious, as he fully recognizes that he is already very wealthy, well placed in a very influential family and incredibly successful in almost everything that he has undertaken to accomplish. He knows his cousin, Tessian, is insecure in his position as King and would do anything to help him, but his efforts only seem to make Tessian resent him more.
