Urlocs (Extinct)

Urlocs were a magical humanoid race, and a venerable one too - they existed for eons longer than Men. They were cruel and exceedingly arrogant. They believed that their immortality and their magical gifts elevated them above all other races and therefore justified any act of heartlessness on their part, any indifference to the well-being of others.   Nonetheless, it is indisputable that the Urlocs were talented. They were known for building extravagant cities in the jungles and rain forests of Thoroth as well as crafting beautiful ocean-going ships. They crafted magical items of exceptional power, and used them as totems of status within their own society. The more powerful the items on one's possession, the more respect one cultivated among other Urlocs. Many legendary artifacts are, in fact, Urloc creations (a lot of the demented ones, at least).   The Urlocs' magical skill extended even to creating enchanted life forms. They did not hesitate to create artificial beings such as constructs, golems, and viles to serve them. They had no ethical qualms about bringing new life forms into being simply to do their bidding. Unfortunately for the Urlocs, this quality was their hubris. The Quishadi race was a creation of theirs, conjured into being for no purpose other than to carry out the Urlocs' orders. However, the Quishadi, being intelligent beings, revolted against their masters for their ill treatment and fought a long and exceptionally destructive war against them. This battle effectively reshaped the entire continent of Scularis and has not been visited by other races since.   After the war for Scularis concluded, historians are unsure what became of the Urlocs. Some believe that the Urlocs retreated to a different plane of existence, one where they could rebuild their society and twist the realm to fit their purposes. Other historians believe that the Quishadi forces succeeded in eradicating the race as a whole, a claim that many Quishadi will disagree with in hopes of finding a lone Urloc to exact revenge upon.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Urlocs had large, thickly set bodies and wide mouths.

Genetics and Reproduction

Urlocs relied exclusively on the power of magic in procreation. They reproduced themselves entirely by magical means, which made them both odd and awesomely powerful in the eyes of other races.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Urlocs had squat noses, pointed ears, and yellow eyes that had no pupils.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Urloc technology was the height of technology in Thoroth. Having created flying machines, hundreds of thousands of constructs, and even the spell-cannons currently in use on many flagships; all of which powered and manipulated through Urloc magical engineering. The air-ships the Urloc crafted for other nations (understood as peace offerings by the nations that received them, but intended as gifts for swearing fealty) are still used today by most governments as expedient and safer forms of travel than by sea.

Common Dress Code

Urlocs wore ornate robes and rarely used weapons or armor. They relied so heavily on their mastery of magic that they dispensed almost entirely with the force of arms, having relied instead on their servant races and, occasionally mercenaries to exercise brute force.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Urlocs regarded all other races as inferior, and they harbored no special ill will against anyone in that regard. The Quishadi would likely now be the only exception to that rule. Were any Urlocs living, the very mention of the Quishadi would surely be enough to stir outrage in the heart of an Urloc.
Lifespan
Urlocs were an immortal race. They only died through mischance or violence.
Average Height
5'6" - 6'
Average Weight
Males averaged 220 lbs and females averaged 180 lbs.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
